Due to perpetually low ratings, we wont see how former CBS Evening News anchor Katie Couric would dismiss Weinergate. But on her Twitter page on Thursday, Couric tweeted: I'm curious if anybody thinks this Anthony Weiner Twitter scandal is a legit news story or just fodder for late-night comedians...thoughts?
So much for Couric's Twitter motto: "True journalism separates fact from fiction. Passionate about discovering what makes the world tick." Like many liberals (and feminists), Couric somehow cant believe this could be true, that a 46-year-old married Member of Congress would be stupid and creepy enough to send a crotch picture to a college student young enough to be his daughter. What if Weiner had bulge-tweeted her 19-year-old daughter?
Resident MRC night owl Brent Baker noted to me that most late-night comedians are off this week (except Stewart and Colbert). We can remember how Couric joined the Republican-bashing media herd in making an enormous deal out of Rep. Mark Foleys creepy Internet messages to congressional pages and Sen. Larry Craigs restroom toe-tapping. But she apparently would be tempted to skip this one, just like NBCs Brian Williams.
When one of her fans replied, "Of course it's not real news. You shouldn't even have to ask," Couric suggested she just wanted to hear the vox populi: "I'm asking cuz it's interesting to hear a variety of opinions...including yours!" There were some other doozy tweets in agreement.

Happy belated Birthday to former President Bill Clinton! The former President celebrated his birthday in Water Mill on Sunday with a star-studded guest list. Almond Restaurant in Bridgehampton catered the event with delicious treats. Among the guests at the party were Hillary Rodham Clinton, Anjelica Huston, Russell Simmons, Matt Lauer, Katie Couric, Martha Stewart, Anthony Weiner and Huma Abedin, Vera Wang, Alan Patricof, Alan Grubman, Diane von Furstenberg, Harvey Weinstein, Donna Karen, Tim Bishop, Christie Brinkley and NYPD Commissioner Raymond Kelly.
Of course it isn’t real news. It involves a Dem.
That is obviously the strategy today... To make this all a JOKE.. I saw a long piece at lunch on CNN that was showing Weiner and then flashing to Oscar Meyer commercials from the 70’s.. Their clear strategy is to make it a joke and laugh it off.
Al GORE
John Edwards
Anthony Weiner
Bill Clinton
Barney Frank
It’s all really really funny to the American public ain’t it?
I wondered out loud at the restaurant that had CNN on who was stupidiest, the people at CNN or the people who watch them and believe anything they say.

Mark
Katie says it’s no big thing.
You’re thinking of Mark Foley.
Other than making the Congressman out to be juvenile and a liar, I’d say it’s not a news story.
C’mon now! Katie is taking an informal poll of her followers on Twitter. This is how modern “Journalism” is done! I.E. if you don’t want to do any actual reporting, take a poll & report on THAT!
Good beginning list of recent Dems who got or get a pass. Please add Sens. Ted Kennedy and Chris Dodd for the famous sandwich with a waitress.
Katie was overheard telling Weiner “Is that a pickle in your drawers or are you just happy to see me?”.
This is the exact problem with having liberal gatekeepers to the news. If Michele Bachmann or - heaven forbid Sarah Palin - had sent a message like that you can be sure Couric would find it newsworthy.
I am so thankful Katie is no longer on the network news spewing her inane/libspeak chatter. Certainly, if this incident involved a Republican this would be her top story.
Gee Katie I’m sure you reported the story when a Republican member of Congress from New York recently sent a picture of himself without a shirt to some woman and was made to resign his seat as a result. The double standard of your reporting is patently obvious.
Katie went on Letterman to make a big deal that Sarah didn’t read the New York Times.
And the “R” guy who sent a picture of his exposed chest had to resign??? Oh the hypocrisy of it all. Open the gates of the prisons cause NO ONE is guilty anymore if they are a Democrat and all those prisoners vote!!!
Were Palin’s flag-bus or eating pizza with a fork legit news stories?
Weiner thinks it is or else he wouldn’t be jumping in front of every camera.
