Federal Judge Prohibits Prayer at Texas Graduation Ceremony

A federal judge has ordered a Texas school district to prohibit public prayer at a high school graduation ceremony.

Chief U.S. District Judge Fred Biery’s order against the Medina Valley Independent School District also forbids students from using specific religious words including “prayer” and “amen.”

The ruling was in response to a lawsuit filed by Christa and Danny Schultz. Their son is among those scheduled to participate in Saturday’s graduation ceremony. The judge declared that the Schultz family and their son would “suffer irreparable harm” if anyone prayed at the ceremony.

Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott said the school district is in the process of appealing the ruling, and his office has agreed to file a brief in their support.

...lawsuit filed by Christa and Danny Schultz.

Gee, I wonder who Christa and Danny were named for?

You are taking the whole thing out of context. The students and their guests are being ordered by a jack booted government thug (the judge) to bow down to Ba'al.

The correct thing to do ~ presuming the judge can't murder you on the spot, is to REBEL.

“Would you be OK with a Muslim lead prayer?”

If I lived in Iran, Yes. Thats a Muzzie country.
America is a christian country founded on christian principals... or am I mistaken? We pray (if at all) to God. Those who choose not to, do not have to. Nowhere does the Constitution. Bill of Rights guarantee freedom “from” religion...

You forgot “rage against the machine”, hate America, kill your parents, and overthrow the government. These items are being taught and encouraged by leading educators who themselves have been taught in seminars by that serious educator from Chicago’ Barack Obama’s friend, Bill Ayers.

The problem here is that you FORCE students to go into a church which is not their own.

First Amendment:

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

Guess the judge chose to ignore the highlighted part,

“Why must people who are not of your religion be forced to pray your prayer?”

false argument. All this kid has to do is remain silent. That used to be called “religious tolerance”. As it has been for this school for decades.

Yes you are. America was founded as a Country in which all religions could exercise their beliefs freely. They escaped European countries where this was not true.

Christian is not mentioned in the Constitution.

I hope the speakers at this event pray anyway. Screw this judge and screw this person who wants to be an agitator. If one loser can’t deal with a 1 minute prayer or even the mention of the name “Jesus” in a religious context, then he can stay home and let the normal people enjoy this event.

The school (government) is prohibited from interfering with people’s religion or speech. The minute someone can claim harm and stop my right to speak the first amendment is worthless.

Are you telling me that Vishnu was the Creator who bestows upon us our rights? Buddah? Are you being willfully ignorant or do you genuinely believe the christian God has nothing to do with the founding of America?

“This is getting ridiculous....Homeschool. If both parents HAVE to work than start classes at 6 when you get home and go until 11 at night. Have classes all day Saturday and 1/2 day Sunday. There is going to have to be sacrifices and if money is not able to be the sacrifice than time is going to have to be what needs to be sacrificed. It can be done. Some will ask what to do with the children during the day.....well there are perfect christian families that babysit and perhaps you could find someone to do that and ensure that wholesome activities are done during the day.”

Easy for you to say. Just kidding. It’s really all a question of priorities. If you love work so much, then junior is probably out of luck due to your long hours. If you want to live in that nice house, but with a 2 hour commute, then junior is again out of luck. But if you are willing to sacrifice for your kids (and no, living in nice house, but never being home is NOT a sacrifice, at least for the kid), then what you say is easily possible.

I managed to teach my kids to read by Age 4 and get them 6 years (plus) ahead in math simply by living close (and yes, that could mean a dreaded apartment) and spending my non-work hours with them (my wife is an immigrant and was not up to it). They even went to ‘school’ during the day, for daycare, of course. [ needless to say, I taught them real phonics and used Saxon Math ]

It is all doable...but not if you live for the Jones’.

I wonder is in the name of consistency, that the boy and his family never swear, using God’s name in vain.

Ever wonder who Madalyn Murray O'Hair screamed to as she, her son and her granddaughter were being tortured and chopped into pieces by one of her atheist associates?
