GOP megastar Sarah Palins bus tour rumbled toward the Hub last night, driving into a Republican Party furor as her headline-grabbing East Coast trip threatened to overshadow todays presidential announcement by party front-runner Mitt Romney.
She will certainly be in New Hampshire to rain on Mitts parade, wrote Massachusetts GOP spokesman Tim Buckley in an e-mail obtained by the Herald. Bay State GOP officials confirmed yesterday that Buckley wrote the e-mail, but said it was a private exchange and not an official communication.
I guess she blew in with the storm, sniffed state House minority leader Bradley H. Jones (R-North Reading) yesterday, a longtime Romney supporter. She may generate a lot of attention, but given the choice between seeing Sarah Palin and Mitt Romney, Id much rather see Romney.

It is becoming more and more clear to people that this is about Sarah and her brand and not a presidential campaign, said one Romney consultant, who added, Shes not making any friends within the political communities. If you cared about things like delegates and primaries, I think youd be a little more attentive.
Still, the rogue road trip put Palin back in the national spotlight, said Steve Duprey, a national Republican committeeman in New Hampshire whose wife volunteers for Romney but who said he is neutral in the race.
Simply by putting her family in a bus and touring around the country shes generating more media attention than most candidates, Duprey said. All the discussions before were about other candidates. Shes changed the conversation just by getting on a bus.
Meanwhile, Romney kept a relatively low profile yesterday, quietly tweeting last night: Big day tomorrow. Join my @livestream event as I announce my candidacy for President in New Hampshire.

That is my plan.
Tingly, even.
Romney ... Romney ... that name rings a bell, faintly ... Oh, I remember, that dozy fellow with the hair like John Edwards. The one who put his dog on the car roof, that Yankeefied goofball with the socialized medicine program.
I think he was running for office, but he wasn’t on my primary ballot in 2008, so I couldn’t have voted for him.
Compare and contrast with Palin, Demint, Bachmann.
Having parties split up gives countries "leaders" like Hugo Chavez. No thank you! We rebuild. Reagan wasn't anointed. Reagan loved America and ran a hell of a campaign -- with a lot of opposition from his party and was hated by the msm. Yet he won in a landslide.
I'm through being swayed or having doubts dropped into my thinking. Conservatism is the majority thinking in the U.S.A. The Republican Party can be the conservative party again -- but it won't be unless WE make it happen. If we don't stand behind and PUSH our elected officials, they will not listen and/or lose focus (unfortunately elected office has become a "profession"). A lot of them are getting the message but it is our obligation to remember that it is WE THE PEOPLE who govern and so we must be willing to do the heavy lifting and not walk away.
I haven’t seen that before. This video should go viral, especially today. Hysterical!
And by this I believe Rush means, a winning conservative GOP (Republican Party). I'm with him.
Perot ran 3rd party against Bush not Clinton.
Bush lost - Clinton won.
In this case, if Sarah ran 3rd party she’d be running against Obama. And Obama would lose and I think the GOP would too.
In 1992 there was no alternative media, no cell phones, texting, internet, tweeting, YouTube, Facebook, blogging, or TeaParty movement. The climate is different. The players are different. The message is different. Our problems are different.
I think 2012 will be Alaskan vs Hawaiian. American vs Globalist. Family vs State. Freedom vs Control. Prosperity vs Austerity.
America has a big choice to make. Freedom or Bondage to Government.
Oh, dear! I guess Sarah is not really running. It's now been confirmed for us more than a hundred times now by the far left: the Obama Regime, the Romney Camp, and the Mainstream Media. We might as well go home and stop paying attention to her. Right?
Sadly, the entrenched GOP did not figure it out in 1992, 1996, 2006 or 2008... and they unconscionably failed to do what was needed when they had all 3 Houses for SIX years, after 2000, 2002, and 2004. The entrenched GOP is just as big an obstacle to Freedom as the MSM. Sadly, we may have to have another 4 years of Obama for enough dedicated GOP voters (many of whom are here on FR) to figure this out.
They did it in Wisconsin! If they did it there they can do it anywhere!
Palin is a fighter.
You gotta love the fact that she is taking it right to the candidate and his team responsible for so many dirty tricks in the last primary...and on his own turf!
I want a fighter like that as my president.
That’s what this country needs.
Like the 3-way special election that we just lost in New York?
But Michelle would make a great Attorney General for President Palin.
As I said, cleaning out the national party is a challenge several magnitudes greater than a single state party.
Even Reagan was not able to do so.
Practically speaking, it will require not just new bodies in national positions, but removing entrenched RINOcrats in places such as Massachusetts, New York, the entire West Coast...how many places in between?
It will require removing the political chameleons from office and party positions...those who have mastered the art of swaying and bending with the wind...those who talk like Reagan when a Reagan is in power, but when he's not, produce things like "Gangs du Jour" and "Chameleon-Kennedy" legislation.
This Bradley Huntington-Smythe quoted in the article, for example...how much dynamite would be required to remove him from his position? How many Bradleys across the country, how much dynamite?
What are the odds of that? I'd seriously like to hear your well reasoned answer.
Compared to the seldom- mentioned fact that BH resigned as US Senator.
Aw. poor babies, why I read just this morning that Romney is going on a nationwide tour. I ask you now, where oh where would he get such an idea?
Palin certainly can go tweet to tweet with Obama. After watching the protesters in Wisconsin using their electronic gadgets (from union goons to brainwashed high school students), it’s obvious we need to do battle there and have someone who is adept at it. I believe Palin also knows the value of “celebrity” and how the public gravitates toward it (and why she uses her talent in that arena). Couple all of her skills and add them to her heartfelt convictions and it’s easy to see why the Left hates her and will do anything to destroy her candidacy and our best chance to take the White House.
Great point!
When deciding the character of a candidate, I do pay attention to tactics. Reagan said the 11th commandment was to speak no ill of fellow Republicans.
What has Mitt Romney permitted, if not directed? He has mounted a smear campaign against Palin.
Is this the kind of administration we want in Washington? DO we want an underhanded conniving power-hungry person who tears down others? Or do we want someone who has a track record of rooting out corruption without trashing the opposition needlessly, as Palin does.
Romney’s character is displayed for all to see, and it would be a shame not to recognize him for what he is.
