Krauthammer: Palin "Not Schooled" In Policy; Doesn't Know She Needs It
Real Clear Politics ^ | June 1, 2011 | Charles Krauthammer

Posted on 06/01/2011 9:43:57 AM PDT by Rennes Templar

FOX News contributor Charles Krauthammer gives his take on what a "Washington establishment elitist" thinks of a potential Sarah Palin run for the presidency. In self-deprecating fashion, Krauthammer says he wears Palin's "hoity-toity" comment as a badge of honor.

"She is very smart and adept. Great political instincts and is a star. The problem with her, I think, is that she is not schooled. I don't mean she didn't go to the right schools. I mean when you get into policy, beyond instincts -- I like her political instincts, I like her political overall view of the world -- but when it comes to policy, she had two-and-a-half years to school herself and she hasn't and that's a problem," Charles Krauthammer told Bill O'Reilly on Tuesday. "It's not only the lack of schooling, it's the lack of effort to school herself and the lack of insight to see that she needs it."

ENOUGH with the arbitrary qualifiers!!! Any one the Conservatives run against “O” is automatically more fit for the Presidency if their ONLY recommendation is that they DO NOT possess such abysmal and idiotic narcissism.

BINGO! THE MONEY QUOTE OF THE DAY!!!!

“She drives them crazy because she is one of ‘us’. Palin absolutely epitomizes the American way of life.”

Precisely what I told Mrs. Colonel during Palin’s convention speech: “Honey - she’s US!”

Krauthammer annoyed me so much when watching O’Reilly last night. He sounded every bit a snob.

Charles, get off the socialist reservation please. You think that someone with morals and character can damage the country, more than the marxist in chief? You think someone who hasn’t allowed a viscous, lying media to destroy her when they are working 24/7 to do so, has no political no-how—no common sense? You don’t think she will hire whoever she needs to make the best decisions for this country instead of hiring Van Jones types who are out to destroy this country like all the Czars for zero....who she would fire in a heartbeat.

Your stupidity is staggering, or you are in the pocket of the one-worlders who are out to destroy every principle this government was founded on.

Krauthammer is too “schooled”. His ideas are all “theoretical” and his worldview is strictly elitist. The common people's reality and common sense are not his stock and trade.

I doubt that Obama had enough personal insight to hire competent people, period.

And Reagan, though he might not have gone to an elite school, had an elite education through experience. That, and the education our grandparents had were far better grade-to-grade than anybody after them had.

“Sarah is smarter than Dr Krauthammer.”

####

In the practical ways that matter in the real world, most definitely.

I’m sure Chuck, has a sky-high IQ. But his incessant patrician snobbery, negates much of the advantage that might confer.

Besides, and you can trust me on this, we don’t want one-dimensional Mensans, even with.... gasp....Ivy League degrees making critical real-world decisions anyway.

Oh, yes you do -- you Eastern Establishment Republican.

Oh, no he doesn't, and cut the populist crap.

Krauthammer means that Sarah Palin still talks a good bumpersticker, but her policy prescriptions have problems withstanding any serious scrutiny. It suggests that she doesn't actually understand in any real depth the issues she discusses.

Her facebook post (yesterday) about Afghanistan was a good example. She couldn't even keep her own points straight; and she just ignored some of the realities of what Karzai was saying.

You might recall the insurgency in Iraq, before Petraeus changed strategy. It was fueled by the bad guys successfully selling regular Iraqis on the idea that the US was an occupying force who were indiscriminately killing civilians. (This wasn't true, but there were enough actual incidents that it helped them to make the case.)

Worst of all, Palin seems to have defended the killing of women and children in the name of getting terrorists.

A talking head or a pundit can get away with that sort of thing, but a president cannot. Had Palin spent any serious time studying the situation in Afghanistan and elsewhere -- that is, "schooling herself," she would have spoken more carefully.

Thank you. I think Texas Eagle, in post 71, has said all that needs to be said.

The problem is with being “schooled,” as opposed to being educated or informed. Being “schooled” is about submitting one’s will and one’s intelligence to the authority of a (self-proclaimed) superior. School is where someone tells you what you can eat and when you can go to the bathroom, and how saying, “God bless this food,” or “I’ll pray for you,” is hate speech.

You can’t have too much knowledge or too much wisdom, but you can sure as shooting have too much of “schooling.” Sarah doesn’t, and that’s why we regular people think we could trust her as our Chief Executive.

Seems DC’s “best and brightest” have led this country to the point of destruction. Perhaps it’s time for someone normal to be the President.

I think what he means is she’s too honest. She doesn’t know how to lie through her teeth while smiling at you. She doesn’t know how to play both ends against the middle where she makes decisions and when they turn out absolutely terrible have a way to prove that she had nothing to do with it. She doesn’t know how to make it look like all the good decisions are hers and the crap belongs to someone else which was a complete shock to her. In short the type of demeanor we’ve seen in the WH these last two years.

You’re absolutely right. They have to be advisors who share your worldview but have done study and research on the subject.

As usual, you Palin acolytes miss the point. He’s not talking about formal schooling at an Ivy League. He’s talking about someone who becomes thoroughly versed on the issues through extensive study, reflection, and consultation. Reagan was a two-term governor of the largest state in the union. He spent years before that reading, speaking, and writing about foreign and domestic policy issues. He took the time and made the effort to learn about the major issues and to formulate his opinions. Palin has a bumper sticker approach to issues. Get beyond the surface and she is out of her depth. Her knowledge of issues amounts to talking points and Tweets.

So, now she’s on a family vacation bus trip and we’re all supposed to be terribly impressed that she’s visiting Gettysburg and the National Archives. Some of us have already been there and have read the documents. Her previous public appearance was a front row seat at the final episode of “Dancing with the Stars.” She’s following that up with pizza with Donald Trump, another publicity hound with a monumental ego. This is presidential? Give me a break.
