As usual, you Palin acolytes miss the point. He’s not talking about formal schooling at an Ivy League. He’s talking about someone who becomes thoroughly versed on the issues through extensive study, reflection, and consultation. Reagan was a two-term governor of the largest state in the union. He spent years before that reading, speaking, and writing about foreign and domestic policy issues. He took the time and made the effort to learn about the major issues and to formulate his opinions. Palin has a bumper sticker approach to issues. Get beyond the surface and she is out of her depth. Her knowledge of issues amounts to talking points and Tweets.

So, now she’s on a family vacation bus trip and we’re all supposed to be terribly impressed that she’s visiting Gettysburg and the National Archives. Some of us have already been there and have read the documents. Her previous public appearance was a front row seat at the final episode of “Dancing with the Stars.” She’s following that up with pizza with Donald Trump, another publicity hound with a monumental ego. This is presidential? Give me a break.

Yes, I do think that this trip is Presidential, and is one of the finest ideas anyone has thought of o date. She’s reminding Americans, many of whom need a nudge after all the years of trashing, about just how majestic and unique our country is. And, how far we have drifted from its founding.
As for DWTS, she’s a loving mom. Her daughter comes first, and she’s unashamed of showing that she is proud of her family. Bob

See, this is what I don’t like about some of the posters on FR. You make an intelligent point. I don’t really agree with you but you make me think. Because I’m not a Palin Acolyte I’m able to consider what you actually wrote.

I think this is why people like Peggy Noonan and Kraut hate all of us cavemen in fly over country. Most of us don’t really care what they think but we don’t benefit by making enemies of them. We’re all so quick to fling poo instead of actually thinking. Myself included.

“This is presidential? Give me a break.”

Even if your spin were true....sooooo?

Sarah Palin is NOT president, hasn’t declared herself to be a candidate, and is a private citizen taking her Alaskian family on a tour of our nation’s historic locals.

....and you think she isn’t being presidential? ......”Give me a break.”

You seem a little tightly wound......ease up and relax.

You watch Dancing With The Stars, and expect political wisdom? Great Expectations, huh?

IMHO...

Well, I don’t think she’s made any speeches at various economic or foreign policy institutions, etc. Nothing in depth. Through serious, in-depth papers and speeches that a future candidate can make known how their philosophy and vision would shape their future Presidency. If only her books had instead been in-depth policy discussion papers, i.e., analysis of the healthcare system, the middle east, china, etc. If those sorts of papers had been written, she’d be well on her way. They could have been combined and published in series of books, “The Palin Papers”. She could have had a panel of people discussing things with her, bringing her up to speed on the issues and use all that material to construct the papers which would have been her take.

She would have disappeared from the media spotlight for all the work, but about now the effort would have started paying off, as she would have turned herself into a recognized formidable mind on the world stage.

Instead, it looks like the Repub machine is not buying what she’s selling, so she’s attempting to make a run on her own, but I don’t think she’s winning many NEW converts, just the same people who have supported her all along.

I just hope they don’t get down in the dumps if things cool off. I hope they realize that it’s not about Sarah, it’s about them - their lives - and America. We need a conservative candidate, not any particular conservative candidate. I happen to favor Cain at this point, but if not him - then someone else has to get in there ! I will not sit and cry about it all would have been better if Cain was elected, etc., I need to keep going no matter who’s elected. Actually, I DO NOT want to prop up my candidate at all by showering praise, and going on and on about how they’re just the picture of perfect Americana, etc. I know that the Repub candidate is going to have to survive on their own; the candidate’s supporters do not run the press conference.

How do you know that she doesn't have knowledge beyond the surface? We see her answers to reporters' questions, her Facebook posts, and her Tweets, which are naturally going to be brief, and would only hit the high points, so they would sound like 'bumper sticker' solutions. What people tend to forget is that she has also written op-eds for the Wall Street Journal, and other conservative publications, which give more information, and DO show her knowledge of particular issues.
