I was able to find this statement from Dec. 4th, 2010
“Question: Please ask Sarah her position on illegal aliens and closing our southern border. Thank you.
Palin: We need to close the borders. They are called illegal aliens for a reason and if they are not going to follow the rules they should not be in our country. Its pretty simple. I ratcheted that one down to the simple answer because its an easier answer than some politicians want it to make it be: you close the borders. You get more agressive about cracking down on the illegal aliens and we take it seriously what our border patrol officers are trying to do.”
The quote is from an interview with Rusty Humphries in 2009. I notice Sarah, in true politician fashion, only answered half of the question - her position on closing our southern borders.
Nice quote but not a word in it about the millions of illegals already here...and that is where palin goes off the rails.
Curious statement that. "and if they are not going to follow the rules they should not be in our country." They shouldn't be in our country period. What rules is she talking about?
This is the language used by Obama in is 2010 STOU address, "We should continue the work of fixing our broken immigration system," he said, "to secure our borders and enforce our laws, and ensure that everyone who plays by the rules can contribute to our economy and enrich our nation.
From Palin's famous interview on Univision
Do you then favor an amnesty for the 12 or 13 million undocumented immigrants?
Palin: No, I do not. I do not. Not total amnesty. You know, people have got to follow the rules. They've got to follow the bar, and we have got to make sure that there is equal opportunity and those who are here legally should be first in line for services being provided and those opportunities that this great country provides.
To clarify, so you support a path to citizenship for undocumented immigrants?
Palin: I do because I understand why people would want to be in America. To seek the safety and prosperity, the opportunities, the health that is here. It is so important that yes, people follow the rules so that people can be treated equally and fairly in this country
