I think it means what it says. My comment here had to do with sorry if you wish you born musical or not handicapped, sorry if you are jealous of those who can do ballet or aren’t deaf, you can’t change it, just live the life you received as loving of God and your neighbor as you can. All the resentment in the world won’t change anything.

"Very depressing. Slavery was the dumbest thing America ever did."

I sincerely ask what you mean by the statement above.

Do you mean it's a "dumb thing" because it's cruel and inhumane to enslave your fellow man or do you believe we'd be better off in this country without an entire race?

If it is the latter, you'd be in agreement with the most rabid white supremacists among us (humanity).

is about culture not genetics

We're in total agreement here.

I hate to break it to you, but most Africans I’ve met also think North American Blacks are animals.

I'm not sure what you think you are breaking to me but if anything your comments come closer to proving my point than discounting it.

If you think that by asserting the cultural influence over pre-disposition and genetics I'm giving a pass to criminals, thugs and race hustlers you're wrong.

"...but most Africans I’ve met also think North American Blacks are animals. "

It's interesting that the Africans you've met speak in broad, absolute terms about Blacks in America the same way many Whites and other non-Blacks do.

I know an actual Kenyan immigrant, and he adamantly keeps his son away from the “black culture” of North America.

Ditto. My population sample is over 70 black Africans from at least 7 different countries over the past 7 years. Their educational background ranges from illiterate refugees to university professors.

George Whitfield is an interesting pre revolution study of attitudes toward slavery.

While he would never own a slave and immediately freed the only slave ever given to him, he started out supporting slavery as a means to freedom from barbarism in Africa and as a path to salvation. Obviously forcing “freedom from barbarism” was wrong but there were some truths in his reasoning.

He later totally renounced slavery while holding firm to the truths about the uncivilized barbarism of africa and the need for salvation of blacks.

The simple fact is that slavery was a very complex social issue but a very simple moral issue.

Only let each person lead the life that the Lord has assigned to him, and to which God has called him.

The context of that verse is married v. single. Not applicable here at all.

Hebrews 12:1 has no such “married v single” context, but applies to life in general.

...let us run the race set before us...

Granted! I wasn't objecting to the idea itself, but rather to the assertion that the 1 Cor 7 verse supported it.

To the best of my knowledge there is not a single genetically mandated voluntary behavior.

Maybe not "mandated," but AFAIK every measurable psychological trait has SOME heritable basis (IOW part nature, part nurture.)

I agree.

What I take issue with is a generalization that says an entire race can be defined by it's worst elements. It's as wrong to paint all Blacks with the "thug brush" as it is to say all Whites are racist. It's understandable for those outside this country to believe that what they see on television and the internet applies to everyone in any particular race. This, much in the same way that after watching reruns of "Dallas" the perception in other countries was (and probably still is) that all White Americans are rich and wear cowboy hats.

It is the criminal element that gets all the press. It is my opinion (without hard evidence to back it up I cannot rightfully ask you to believe the same) that the vast majority of Black Americans are upstanding, law abiding and have the same beliefs and concerns you and I do. I also suspect that if the truth were known the number of Blacks who hold Conservative political views and even vote for Conservatives is much larger than we will ever know. But, as in Hollywood such views and voting preferences must kept close to the vest otherwise they will be marginalized and persecuted by those who believe marching in lock step with (White) liberals and the democrats is the only way to go.

Of course even if proof of this were carved in stone we'd most likely never hear about it. At least not from the sources of news and information most Americans use.

So he admits to slandering whites for over 20 years. Typical television if you ask me.

Do we have a reading comprehension issue or just a memory problem here? The EXACT comment I was responding to was:

"genetic predisposition for violence that black people have".

I don't see the phrase "urban street crime" in there anywhere, all I see is "VIOLENCE". So why are not the bloodbaths in Europe, including the mass murder by those two "white boys", Stalin and Hitler the perfect way to refute the original idiotic comment?

How about if you spend some time condemning the blatantly racist original post (now removed by the admin, BTW) I was responding to, rather than playing semantic "gothcha" games with me, OK?

Your argument is without merit.

There is very little in common between ghetto-dwelling thugs engaging in murderous behavior and countries going to war against one another.

Your attacks sound like you have an irrational hatred of white people, or something. I don't get it.

Also, using the phrase "white boys" is considered declasse and offensive.

There are different forms of "violence". Feel free to learn about them so that you may differentiate between them, as they are not all equal or the same. Anyway, you said:

"How about if you spend some time condemning the blatantly racist original post (now removed by the admin, BTW) I was responding to, rather than playing semantic "gothcha" games with me, OK?

I certainly do apologize, it's just that your argument was so poorly conceived it was almost laughable. It had no value, and was an utter waste of electrons. Since we are all civilized adults here, I thought I'd help you out, is all.

I know of no such study. Almost all behavior is entirely nurture. Certainly all voluntary behavior is nurture.

Unless perhaps you know of a reputable peer reviewed study that establishes a genetic link to voluntary behavior?

My recommendation to you is a book by the late David Rowe entitled The Limits of Family Influence. It’s the best summary I know of the heritability of behavior and the importance of “non-shared” environment.

Rowe was a psych professor at the U of AZ. There arent many impressive ones left, but he sure was one of them.
