Dupnik: Raid stemmed from 20-mo. probe
Arizona Daily Star ^ | 6/1/2011 | Fernanda Echavarri

The man killed in a SWAT team raid last month had been under investigation by the Pima County Sheriff's Department for 20 months as part of a major drug and homicide investigation, Sheriff Clarence Dupnik said Tuesday during an editorial meeting with the Star. But details of the investigation into Jose Guerena's activities won't be released because an informant for the Sheriff's Department could be in danger, Dupnik said. "There's a chance that our informant is going to get killed," he said. Guerena was killed when SWAT officers fired 71 rounds from the front door of his home in the 7100 block of South Redwater Drive, while serving a search warrant on May 5, department officials have said. Guerena was hit 22 times and died at the scene, according to a preliminary report by the Pima County Medical Examiner's Office. Two weeks after the shooting, officers were alerted to a storage room at Ajo Kinney Super Storage, 5175 W. Ajo Highway, rented to Jose Guerena's mother, Bertha, Dupnik said.

...officers with "certain talents" form the County SWAT team.

Looks like those "certain talents" do not include marksmanship. Over 70 rounds fired in a livingroom and 21 hits. Sheesh.

It's still MHO that most SWAT teams are just SEAL wannabee dressups.

It is common practice for communists to use non local parties to execute action on desired targets.

The Chinese shuffle around military persons so repercussion from their ordered actions are not traceable to the family and home of those executing the action.

Been going on for a long time.

He is a returned veteran and our Justice Department has fingered such people as dangerous and liable to revolutionary and criminal activities in its communications and information to all Law Enforcement agencies.

That would make this “premeditated” murder.

According to Janet Napolitano veterans of Iraq and Afghanistan could represent a domestic terror threat. Sheriff Dupnik may have many other local veterans targeted. It was a DHS memo vaguely linking psychotic Jared Lee Loughner to some anti-alien website that Dupnik used to go on his partisan political rant after the Rep. Gifford shooting. That was another tragedy that might have been avoided had the sheriff been more competent.

"Why are they not investigating this?"

They probably are - they don't need to let us know.
I am sure this Sheriff has a lot of legitimate complaints against his office.

“Officers also found high-end military gear and advanced weather protective clothing inside the storage locker, Kastigar said.”

I’ve been retired for several years. You could say the same about my closet. I have several canisters used for gas masks...couldn’t find them when I turned in my gear, and the folks at supply told me they were old enough not to worry about searching for - but what would my sheriff (I live in Pima County) say about it? That I was hoarding them for a visit from his SWAT team?

And I have two varieties of Goretex “advanced weather protective clothing” from my trip to Afghanistan. Wasn’t supposed to return them after use, but sure don’t use them much around Tucson. If I had a storage locker somewhere, they would be in it.

I also have a helmet that supply told me not to bother turning in...older model. What does that make me?

Hmmm... Have you noticed that the info is coming out at just about the same pace it would take to manufacture it?

Just sayin'...

Cops acted as judge jury and executioner here.
It is happening all to often.
Too many swat crap teams every damn place that seem to escalate everything.

I wonder what kind of security Dupnik has? I mean, it would be a shame if someone like the cartels that this veteran “OBVIOUSLY” worked for were to decide to pay Dupnik a visit to have a “chat” about thier dealer being murdered.

It would also be a crying shame if someone else were to do it and the cartels get blamed for it. Since the police were ever so right in word and deed here, Guerena is clearly a bad guy, so why would the authorities ever THINK to blame anyone but the drug cartels?

Oh the twisted paths the mind can wander when it is awash in righteous anger.

Dupnik said. "There's a chance that our informant is going to get killed,"

I do believe that Dupnik just threatened his informant.
