This is a vanity post, and I'm hoping I put it in the right place...if not, I'm sure y'all will redirect me. (I'm hoping any redirection is kind.)
My husband ordered an R-25 from Dick's months ago (February) and has been playing phone tag with them since. They said they ordered it and that it was on its way. Today, he called again and spoke to the manager since he still hadn't heard anything. The manager said they couldn't transfer any gun from CO (that's where they had one in stock and we're in TN) because the ATF came in and stopped the transfer -- there's some new law and they are not sure how the new law will work. Dick's is shutting down their gun sales because it's too hard to get weapons in -- even in-state transfers. And, because they don't sell handguns, they can't legally sell handgun ammo anymore.
Is this manager full of it, or have you all heard anything about anything like it?
The manager is full of it. There exists no such law.
Dick’s has started to live up to it’s name over the past couple of years. Many of my customers have had some real WTF style complaints about them. But for me, it’s all good as it helps my business. I would recommend that your hubby go to www.budsgunshop.com and buy his gun there. Have it shipped to a local FFL that does transfers for a reasonable rate.
I charge $5 for transfers but I’m considered one of the lowest on the east coast. I wouldn’t pay over $25 for a transfer of a rifle, shotgun or handgun. If a shop wants more than that, they are ripping you off.
I once had a business meeting several hours drive away, and met a colleague at a Dick's to park my car and ride with him. When he got there I said "The sign says 'Dick's Sporting Goods'. Which is it?" So he says "Duh! That's the same thing!"
Not to start any flames here, but I hate Dick’s. Went in there one time and it looked to me like all their stuff was crap. I prefer Academy, they sell lots of stuff I like and I’ve never walked out of there pissed off.
LOL. I'll have to agree with that. I recently went to Dick's to get some shotgun shells that were advertised on sale. Have previously bought ammo, targets, and a .22 rifle at that particular store. A store re-model was under way, and that department had been eliminated. A salesperson told me that all that inventory had been shipped to another store, and this store would no longer carry these type items.
How can they still call themselves a sporting goods store? If I wanted shoes or a windbreaker, I'd go to Target.
Sportsman's Warehouse is MUCH better, at least the ones near me.
“manufacture” in 27CFR478/479 means to make for resale for profit.
At least you didn't lose them in a boating accident. I tell ya', when these lakes in central Texas start drying up in the current drought, I'm heading out there with the metal detector to see if I can find some of those lost guns.
Prolly won’t NEED a MD. There’ll be this huge mountain-o-gunz right in the middle of where the lake used to be! Condition of the metal and wood parts may vary.
It was a bloody mess. Stocks, shucks, kernels, buckshot, stalks and barrels.
Guns and butter...
You’re absolutely right — definitely not wanting to support store/chain that either makes up nonsense to cover themselves, or won’t sell what is legal at all. We definitely won’t be back to Dick’s for anything — which is a shame because it’s the closest sporting goods store. The nearest Academy is in the hood, and I hate driving into Nashville to hit Bass. But it looks like that’s what I’ll be doing.
Go to The Gun Source as they have this rifle in three different calibers. Purchase the rifle from them using your debit/credit card (saving sales tax if they're not in your state) and have it delivered to your local gun shop. The folks at Gun Source are great to work with and I have bought from them several times with great success.

PS: You stated that you're in Tennessee, but your flag was a Texas flag. If you are in middle Tennessee, send me a FReepmail and I can tell you who I use to take delivery. They are located just 3 exits south of the Franklin Dick's Sporting Goods, at #46.
Yes, a commercial manufacturer needs a Type 6 license (a misnomer to call it a “firearms” license, but that’s what they call it.
A non-commercial manufacturer (as defined by the dictionary, not federal bureaucrats) does not require a license.
Search for the weapon you want on Gunbroker.com (out of Atlanta, GA) and bid on it.
If you are the winning bid, pay for the firearm and send a copy of the FFL to the seller (the seller will indicate the shipping charge to be paid).
Complete the completely legal transaction without dealing with DICKS.
Thanks! My flag is a TX flag b/c we relocated from DFW this past fall...and I haven’t even thought to change it til you mentioned it!
In an earlier post on this thread I called them PC. Maybe they, like many sporting goods stores that have dropped the hunting sports, made a business decision to not have to stock items that cost them so much in paperwork and manpower (filling out the paperwork and maintaining it).
Along with that is the fact the BATFE scumbags jail and fine FFL dealers for minor paperwork infractions. Not only do these businesses not want those fines and possible court costs but they want to protect their employees from the same. They also do not want to incur the expense of training their employees to fill out and maintain all that garbage.
Did you try to purchase the rifle at the Franklin store?
No, the Mount Juliet store.
For guns at least, look for a little mom & pop in your town or nearby. Shorter drive, better service, more knowledgeable staff, and a good type of business to help stay in business.

Type 07 and 10 FFL's can also manufacture ammo for commercial sale. See tagline...
