House to Vote Tuesday Night on Debt Limit Increase

House lawmakers will conduct a straight, up-or-down vote on increasing the debt limit on Tuesday night, House Majority Leader Eric Cantor, R-Va., has announced.

Republican leaders had previously stated the vote would be sometime this week, but the date was not known before Cantor revealed the schedule Sunday.

By doing the vote after 6:30 pm, that ensures that the market is closed and there is no "real time" metric on Wall Street to measure the vote.

I think this is good in that it will force some Dems to be on record for supporting a flat limit increase with no cuts.

I don’t know why Congress doesn’t just put us out of our misery and admit they have no intention of limiting our debt by raising the debt ceiling to $infinity. At least then we’d have clarity about who is with us and who is against.

surprised they did not take the vote on Memorial Day at 8AM so it would get buried under the Jim Tressel story

Friends,
Today is the big day for the Debt Ceiling vote!

We received word this morning that the House will be holding a clean vote on raising the debt ceiling at 6:30 PM this evening.  We need your help to make sure this does not pass the House!

What Can You Do? Take these 4 steps NOW!

 1. Call - Call your Congressman / woman and tell them to vote NO!  You can find your Representative's contact information here.

2. Fax - Fax your Representative and tell them to vote NO on the raising of the debt ceiling.  You can find their fax number here.

3. FaceBook - Go to you Representative's FaceBook page and comment on their page telling them to vote NO on raising the debt ceiling.  Search for their FaceBook page here.

4. Twitter - Tweet your Representative and tell them to vote NO on the raising of the debt ceiling.  Search here for their Twitter name and then send the following tweet to them: I urge you to vote NO on raising the debt ceiling.

The US Treasury brings in enough revenue to service our debt.  The politicians in Washington just want to raise the debt ceiling so that they will not have to make the tough decisions they were sent there to make.

The fact is that we have a spending problem, we do not have a revenue problem!

We should be asking them, "What is the point of having a debt ceiling if you continue to raise the ceiling?"

The time is here for us to hold them accountable.  We cannot let them do this on our watch.  Please call and tell them NO!

After you have taken the steps to contact your Congressman, please send this to your circle of influence and have them do the same.  We need all hands on deck today!

My rep (Tom Price) will get an earful from me if he votes ‘yes’. He had earlier promised us that he was against obamacare, but he voted in favor of continued obamacare funding in the last budget measure.

Tressel cemented his position in many minds as a self-serving loser by airing his drama on Memorial Day. The media in Columbus is to blame as well for completely ignoring the true meaning of the day.

"I think this is good in that it will force some Dems to be on record for supporting a flat limit increase with no cuts."

It won't be many...and those will be from safe, uber-liberal districts.

I expect 350+ votes against. Maybe 400.

The GOP just wants some of the Dems to walk the plank. With a 2/3 threshold, this will not pass, so this will be easy to vote no.
Then, when things get stickier, some of the moderate Dems (or some rinos) could flop. This vote does at least help to keep the no vote solid- at least a no to increasing the debt ceiling w/o cuts or things such as funding 0bamacare.

And they are holding the vote tonight so when the vote to increase the debt level goes down in flames the global markets don’t crash - they hope!

On to negotiations.

Traitors to our Constitution.

Do not raise the debt ceiling.

End of negotiations.

Now that he’s chairman of the House Republican Policy committee, his constituency is no longer the 6th District of Georgia. Now, his constituency solely consists of the GOP Leadership.

This is just a pro forma vote to get everyone on record for a straight, clean bill on raising the debt limit. No Rep will vote for it and I bet that there will be plenty of Dems voting with the Reps.

They did something similar in proposing four different budget bills in the Senate. The MSM focussed on the fact that the House budget was defeated 57-40, but failed to note that the Senate voted 97-0 against the Obama 2012 budget.

Yea, it has to not pass.

If it doesn't and they accept it, the only solution will be to cut.

I don't think the dems are capable of that, and the GOP not so much either.

The fire has to singe their feet.

The republicans need to have them focus on fat, redundancy, fraud, theft (such as taking all the ss money and spending it on other things) and unconstitutional depts such as Education, EPA, Transportation.

If any orgs such as those are needed, it's the states RIGHTS to implement them.

LOL@ the Senate voted 97-0 against the Obama 2012 budget.

But the dems don't want to have a budget imo.
