There are some better possibilities for names, but they could have done worse too. Personally, I would have liked to have seen a new Enterprise, which I believe is scheduled to be decommissioned when the Ford is completed. Or perhaps some of the more historical names, such as Yorktown, Wasp, Saratoga, etc would have been fine options as well.

Well at least it’s better than the USS Teddy Kennedy which would immediately sink while the captain went home to sleep off his drunkeness before informing Fleet Command...

In all fairness, he did serve honorably in the Navy so like him or not...

I agree - I would like to see a move away from naming ships after politicians and bureaucrats.
Sadly, there will eventually be a ship named for O’Bozo too.
When that time comes, maybe they can build a floating bunkhouse for gays and name it the “USS Resident Obama”.
Larry Sinclair could do the christening.

John F. Kennedy serviced Marilyn Monroe and Angie Dickinson too.

Named after a Navy vet president; OK by me. Surprised it wasn’t sooner.

I fully support naming the ship after JFK. He was a hero. But, today in the WSJ I read a blistering book review about how Kennedy’s inexperience almost got us into nuclear war.
Must read: When Kennedy Blinked ...
“on coming to the end of Frederick Kempe’s molecule-by-molecule deconstruction of the Kennedy reputation for toughness, vigor, smarts and unshakable cool, are more likely to breathe a sigh of relief that civilization somehow survived the confrontation. http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052748704816604576335594159928256.html

Kennedy already had a carrier named after him - the disasterous oil burner Jimmy Carter made the Navy build.

John Kennedy deserves to have this ship named for him. Just read about the PT-109 and what he did for his crew after his PT boat was sent to the bottom. A true war hero.

I don't think much of the lecherous scumbag when it comes to President, but he did valiantly earn his Navy Cross in WWII.
However, I do not see a need to name another carrier after him. It breaks my heart to think that our country's namesake, USS America (CV-66) was towed out to sea and used for Tomahawk practice. This new ship should be named USS America before she is named USS John F. Kennedy.

Post or FReepmail me if you wish to be enlisted in or discharged from the Navair Pinglist.
The only requirement for inclusion in the Navair Pinglist is an interest in Naval Aviation.
