Chuck (Schumer): Probe oil refiners' profits
NY Post ^ | May 29, 2011

Posted on 05/29/2011 2:40:04 PM PDT by lowbridge

New York Sen. Charles Schumer wants the government to investigate U.S. oil refiners' skyrocketing profits, which he said are to blame for high gas prices.

"Something is rotten," said the Democrat, speaking today at a gas station on Manhattan's West Side.

He said refiners' profits have more than doubled since last year. Meanwhile, the price of unleaded gas went up by almost 12 percent in just the two weeks ending May 6, topping $4 a gallon in New York.

The senator said he believes refiners may be fixing prices by cutting back on stockpiles — by keeping refining capacities to only 81 percent and through exports that diminish domestic availability.

In a letter to the Federal Trade Commission, Schumer demanded an investigation into record profits by major refiners.

If he knew anything about the oil industry he would know that refineries are not design to make much profit.

He knows that very well. I'll bet his portfolio is stuffed full of energy stocks. But his tripe sells well up here.

In the Northeast, big-labor, vulgar Marxism is deeply engrained. Every time he reaches into his file and pulls out one of these nuggets, mind-numbed liberals across the state knod in approval.

Sigh.

OK Chuckie Schmuckie,
go to Yahoo finance, check:

Valero, one of the largest refiners in the world, which has no upstream operations (drilling, etc.) solely a refiner and retail operation. They buy crude, they ship and/or sell fuel.

2008... Revenue $119.1 Bil...Net loss ($1.131 bil) .(.9%)
2009... Revenue $64.6 Bil....Net loss ($1.982 bil) .(3.1%)
2010... Revenue $82.2 Bil...Net Income $324 mil..... 0.4%

Yeah Chuckie, what a great business to invest billions of dollars in to finally eke out a 0.4% of one percent profit.

Putz, $324 million, that’s probably less than you and your staff are costing our nation every year!

“How about new permits for new refineries. Competition works perhaps Schumer and the boys should try it sometime.”

Good Point!

What that socialist does not want you to know is that the big bankers he is in bed with are speculating the price of oil through the roof using taxpayer money. JPM was caught renting huge super tankers just to store it and drive the price up. They are not alone.

I grew up in the old field, and it amazes me how the people can so resent an industry that enabled them to live without cold dust and yet more cheaply. I honestly think that they think that they ought to get free gas and heating oil.

..........Chuckie should be probing Barney.............

You sir, have just given me a disgusting image! I hope I can shake it before bedtime, I certainly don’t want to dream about Barney with his read-end in the air, awaiting Chuckie Schmuckie to drop his under shorts.

Maybe a Helen Thomas beauty post can clear my mind!

Yuk

Hey! Chuck the Schmuck! Maybe you should investigate the lack of drilling permits and the lack of refinery capacity due to overbearing government intervention...now that would be some ‘investigation’ I could support.
