A veteran Bexar County sheriff's deputy was fatally shot during an apparent ambush while waiting at a traffic light in his marked patrol vehicle early Saturday, according to the San Antonio Express.
Forty-five-year-old Sgt. Kenneth Vann was waiting at an intersection just after 2 a.m. Saturday when a small white vehicle pulled up next to him on the right side and started shooting through the front passenger window. Witnesses called police, who discovered Vann dead in the driver's seat.

I too was thinking along that line. Perhaps another one of those Mexican drug cartel murders that is spilling over into the US from the drug cartel capital of the (world) just to our South. Good job Obama on sealing our borders.
If he was a bad cop, I tend to think they’d do more than just a drive by assassination, because they’d have personal access to him sooner or later.
The message is simpler. “We’re in town and untouchable.”

you forgot a fourth reason.
Affirmative action hiring puts lousy people on the ranks of the force. Over far more qualified and decent people than those that can’t get over a D or F on the tests.
This is a huge problem because these losers make everyone on the force look bad.
Good point.
This is very sad. I lived in San Antonio for 11 years and would go back there in a minute, if my parents didn’t live so far away. I loved it.
RIP.
Too late, already there in many cities and towns.
Not to worry, the “Patriot Act” has been extended, overly zealous LE will remain unaccountable.
Huh?
If it was someone who lost a relative to some SWAT attack, an otherwise law abiding citizen who has finally gotten tired of waiting for the Gumment to Do the Right Thing...
You know, back in 1905, a crowd marched on the palace of the Czar at St. Petersburg, to give him a note, telling him what the bureaucrats were doing, and how the people were starving. The police panicked and fired on the crowd. Between 1,000 and 4,000 dead. You can draw a direct line between Bloody Sunday and a celler room in Ekaterinberg 12 years later.
When will our Bloody Sunday be? Will we have one big one, or are we having a lot of little ones? We already have a Czar, a whole bunch of them. Sometimes I hate history.
Will someone put a leash on SWAT teams, no-knock warrants and a militarized police force, or is this the first of a new trend?
Maybe Camp was right. Welcome to the New Hell.
Sgt. Vann is just one of the first of many who will be done this way by the invader shock troops. This is the way it's done where they are from. Police don't mean much to them, especially police who don't take money from them, and actually think they should do their job - enforce the laws.
Mexico is coming. The bliss ninny children of America understand nothing of what this will be like.
But Sgt. Vann knew in the last few seconds of his life.
Wonder why the Marshals are involved. It’s not a federal offense and they don’t get involved in primary investigations. Must have a lead that a federal fugitive is involved.
“There is a difference between some hick sheriff’s department in New Mexico and the deputies who patrol San Antonio, a city bigger than Boston.”
What the hell does this have to do with New Mexico?
Anyone, that puts a badge on and patrols a county, is putting their lives on the line. It doesn’t matter where they are.
"1 is the inner city. That could turn any good cop bad. After all, even soldiers get to leave the warzone eventually."
"2 is over militarization and a steady march toward nationalization of police forces. We were better off when our police were local."
"And 3 is bad laws that criminalize virtually everyone."
I'd add a fourth. The High Courts that often allow the Constitution to get stepped on by the police. No doubt being a cop is a hard job, and a thankless one, (though they do get paid very well, get excellent bennies, and retire relatively young). Still, an inner city cop has a hard life, period.
As for this deputy getting killed, his family can blame John McCain, Barak Hussein Obama, Teddy Kennedy, George Bush, and every other weasely, self-serving politician who lets these illegal Mexicans into our country at will, to gain the favor of VOTES. I wonder how Bush feels when he reads another cop is murdered by an illegal, or another American is killed by an illegal Mexican drunk driver? I know Obama feels, he feels good about it.
We need to SEAL the borders, not patrol them. And I did that mean the word SEAL to be a double entendre. Seal it up, and let special forces Aces like the Navy SEALS help patrol it. THEN watch crime go down faster than you can say: "The Democrats Stood UP To Give Caulderon A Standing Ovation When He Condemned American Immigration laws". Illegal Mexicans and other so-called "latinos" often come here with a criminal mentality and they simply ply their 'trade'. Just like the political leadership calls islam "the religion of peace", and lie through their politician teeth, they claim "most people who come here illegally just want to work", another blatant lie to garnver votes from these theives who enter the U.S. under cover of darkness, undetected by US Border Patrol. They start their American 'dream' with a federal crime, continue it with identity theft, and propogate it by sending money back to their turd world countries to fund more illegals to come here. It can no longer be said that "Americans are smart". We are indeed, brainless, selfish, and slowly dying from self inflicted wounds.
You have a telling tag line.
Three more reasons:
ImpunityThey can get away with almost anything (often including murder), and they know it.
Culture of CorruptionThe other cops are corrupt, so they go along with it. They take care of one another. They are an elitist fraternity that see themselves being above the citizens, who are all filth to them.
Power CorruptsThey are men, and Man is easily corrupted by having the power of authority with no checks and balances.
Condolences to family and friends of Sgt. Kenneth Vann.
