Immediately after his coronation, King Franklin Roosevelt established The National Recovery Administration (NRA) and vested it with dictatorial powers.
King Franklin had seized upon the fear and anxiety the average American felt in the Great Depression and he thought people would roll over and become his surfs to save them. The Schechter brothers, four Orthodox Jewish immigrants working as kosher butchers in Brooklyn, had other ideas.
They fought King Franklin all the way to the United States Supreme Court and their winning decision came down 76 years ago today.
The brothers with the thick Eastern European accents and odd looking grab had placed their faith in the courts of their adopted country and won.
Selling dirty chickens
The Roosevelt Administration was built on a deadly and corrosive theory: getting out of the Great Depression could only be achieved by forcing prices ever higher. His oh so smart advisors foolishly believed scarcity and high consumer prices would lead to higher profits which would in turn provide businesses the needed capital to hire new workers.
One of the many areas of everyday life the NRA stuck its nose into was the kosher poultry business. As socialists and anti capitalists, Roosevelts shock troops eventually found their way to the shops run by the Schechter brothers. Roosevelt apparatchiks demanded they use government cleanliness regulations instead of the ancient Jewish glatt kosher regulations to clean their chickens as observant Jews the Schechters refused the demand.
Aside from the demand for less not more cleanliness Roosevelt didnt like the amount of profit the brothers were making either. The NRA alleged agents [bought] sick chickens [from Schechters].. The brothers were fined $7,425.00 and sent to federal prison for a few months
Capitalism was not a favorite policy of King Franklin

I actually know the Schecter Brothers, or rather their kids. The dispute ended in 1937. They spent a very short time in jail.
They did go bankrupt because of the cost of the lawsuit.
The Schecters I know remain Orthodox and are Republican.
many people don’t know that the Roosevelt Administration actually seized and for a time ran the Montgomery Ward department store chain after its CEO told them to take their NRA rules and stuff ‘em.
Correcttion: 1935.
L. A. Schechter Poultry Corp. v. United States, 295 U.S. 495 (1935).
Where are you getting the information that they loved Roseveldt?
I just made a phone call and was informed, in no uncertain terms, that FDR was hated by the Schecters for what he did, largely because FDR allowed the regulations to be written by union mob bosses in the meat packing industry who beat Jewish merchants and kosher butchers and burned Orthodox Jewish stores.
One of the first published accounts of Stockholm’s Syndrome, eh? How sad and they say Jews are smart!
Go figure indeed!

If it was remotely true, I’d agree.
It looks a lie, however.
From the original article. My guess is some Schecters were very angry at Roosevelt and some accepted him even though he ruined their business. We all know Franklin Roosevelt kept ships full of fleeing European Jews from landing in America. Many Jews ended up in Cuba where dictator Fulgencio Batista was happy to have them because they were an entrepreneurial class. Now our borders are so wide open to the uneducated of the 3rd world....back then Jews could not get in to save their lives!

The word is serf, from the Latin servus, meaning "slave".
I’ve read the blog this is based on, and I am aware that FDR was liked by many Jewish Americans.
But I don’t see anything, anywhere, that the Schecters “remained loyal democrats.”
Indeed, if anything, they were part of the small kernal of Orthodox who became politically active -— and Republican (or rather, classically liberal, in the Virginia founders sense of the word).

No Free Lunch

The final paragraph reads: Among Roosevelts supporters, evidently, were a family of chicken butchers in Brooklyn named the Schechters. Their major political concern in the 1930s was anti-Semitism, Shlaess appendix quotes one of their descendants as saying. They believed that if Roosevelt had not solved the problems of the Depression, the U.S. could have gone the way of Nazi Germany. The Schechters apparently voted for Roosevelt every time he ran.

At coachisright.com getting it right is the most important thing. We never have to fudge the truth because the liberal give us so much genuine material.
Nevertheless there now seems to be enough doubt about the political leanings of the Schechter brothers to warrant a further look.
If anyone would care to write a rebuttal follow up I would certainly read it and consider it. It would have to be 300 to 500 words and be linked.
I Thank those who thoughtfully challenged the information in this essay.

Your best guess is better than my best guess
I have seen that photo before
You know your history. As it is many Jews who fled Europe made it to Cuba, Argentina and South America. They wanted to get into America but Roosevelt kept them out. Today we let anyone in except for Europeans and the white farmers of South Africa and Rhodesia who are very capable and sure could use a home right about now.
If more Americans understood history we might not have to go through the same crap over and over.
“he thought people would roll over and become his surfs..”
LOL,Coach is right, but Coach can’t spell.
