As you pump 13 gallons into your Honda CR-V -- American's best-selling SUV with 28 mpg on the highway and 21 in town -- it's nearly impossible to view the $50 you're spending with a positive attitude.
With the national average for regular at $3.81, it's easy to label oil executives as pond scum, but try to remain open-minded. Think of the big picture: Though that promised road trip to Disney World has gone up in carbon monoxide, high gas prices may actually have an upside. Not for you and your family personally, maybe, but perhaps for the United States as a whole. What if gas hit $5 a gallon? Here are some benefits (and we're serious about most of them):
-Fewer people would die on the road.
-Demand for high-mileage cars could grow.
-Shorter security lines
-Less Pollution
-Less Congestion
-High prices lead to lower prices.
-More exercise
-End of wars
-Local Business could profit
-It's all about democracy

Let’s see if I can get this right-Under Bush $4 gas meant we were all being ripped off by greedy oil companies and a couple oil men in the WH who were personally profiting from our suffering. Now, under the boy-king and $5 gas we’re still being ripped off by greedy, tax-evading oil companies, but...our messiah will use this hardship to lead us to the green promised land featuring cheap plentiful alternative energy, no more congestion or pollution and all of humanity living in blissful ecological harmony.
Wow, I feel really ashamed now that I didn’t realize all this early on.
Excellent idea.
Oh goody
Do i keep my receipts ???
or will Barry send me a voucher ???
I encourage everyone to read the comments at the MSNBC article. Amazing how many negative comments to this article that have been posted.
Not trying to be PollyAnna, but I believe (hope) the worm is turning for the masses of people.
The liberal dream for Americans is basically Beijing:
1. You WILL ride your bicycle
2. to your 8-5 union factory job and
3. return home to your dirty little apartment to
4. raise your single allowable child who is
5. supervised by your neighborhood social worker.
Non-participation will result in an extended stay in a re-education camp.
Of course, the liberal elites will continue to drive BMW’s to their country manors, but the stress of managing the flyover sheeple necessitates luxury.
Actually, it’s worse than you think. This writer claims the reason for less wars will be that we can’t afford to do them anymore and will thus pull out of Afghanistan, Iraq and Libya. In other words, it will severely weaken our military.
all politicians, parties, labels are scum...have learned that much even though it was self-evident from the gitgo!
Lynn is a moron.
“-the people most affected cant afford to buy a new efficient car”
Cash for clunker programs insures they’ll eventually have to.
Problem with higher oil prices is we will be fighting the kenyans and Ethiopians for grain and beans.because you can forget about affording protein.
Combined with the population bomb there is only one thing left. Soylent Green.
Think about it, since health care rationing is here, and since that gives an unelected beurocrat the ability to say who lives and who dies, that beurocrat can just pick a group of people,(say, white American males) and have them killed for food.
The writer is being seriously, and rightfully, roasted in the comments section of the article.

Only someone who went to college could write something so mind-boggling idiotic.
Personally I find it truly amazing that the petroleum industry can sell a gallon of gas for about three dollars a gallon, once you strip out the embedded fuel taxes.
That means the entire transportation, refining, transportation again, distribution infrastructure can make a profit once they buy the oil for $100 a barrel, and sell it for $126 a barrel ($3x42 = 126, if it could all be converted to gas, which it can’t be)
Yesterday I bought a pint of dental mouthwash, that is supposed to fight bacteria, for $25. Looking at the label, 85% of the contents was water, so I paid $25 for 1.25 ounces of the active ingredient, flavors, colors etc.
That works out to $2560 per gallon, quite a few quid more than $3 gasoline!
So, who’se raping who??

I will give up other things so that I can continue to pump premium unleaded into my 2009 Crystal Red Tintcoat 3LT Corvette.
Yeah yeah, I’ve read this all before, back when gas prices were spiking during the GWB administration. errr. no... wait, they didn’t? Oh, thats right, never mind.
