The U.S. Department of Justice sent a letter to House and Texas Senate leaders Tuesday -- reportedly in person -- threatening a shut-down of airports if HB 1937 is passed.
The letter claims Rep. David Simpson's (R-Longview) anti-TSA-groping bill is against federal law and the Supremacy Clause of the U.S. Constitution. We include the text of the DOJ's letter, as well as a portion of Simpson's reply, below.

The feds do not own the planes so they can search you and your car also by your reasoning that it is not a 4th Admend. issue. They (police) already do it a sobriety stops this will be just the next stop.
I think the Texas legislature will fold since the Feds can shut down air travel whenever they feel like it...
LOL! And the Texas Legislature can block & delay all oil and gas shipments from it’s ports & refineries on technicalities and shut down America in about 3.2 seconds flat
It doesn't matter. A foot in the door is a foot in the door.
Time is coming......
What is Obama going to do, shoot down the flights?
We just saw Trump and Netanyahu stand up to Obama and force his hand like a child.
Take note Gov. Perry.
Yep...getting punished for doing the RIGHT thing! I hope they
do find a way to repeal this. I totally dread flying!
I keep wondering if it’s time yet.
There is more than 1 way to skin a cat besides sticking the cats head in a boot jack & pulling on its tail. Define the actions of the TSA as sexual molestation of children & arrest the TSA agent the Feds go into court claiming that it was his duty to molest children then when the judge goes along start the propaganda campaign for all that its worth.
oops! Sorry about that Dan!

See reply #79 by SwinneySwitch. The bill has been pulled.
I dread flying too, and hope to stay off any planes for now.
Get real ~ read the constitution. Interstate commerce has no business flying over my property or rolling a truck through it without the government compensating me for it ~ the method is prescribed in the 5th amendment.
The USSC ruled that planes could fly over my property because the government would make sure they didn't crash on my house. "Safety" is my compensation.
You are an idiot that you didn't knowthat.
If the feds keep interfering with states rights, I say it’s time.
Saw that. Texas blinked, which is NOT good.
I wish Congress would take up this issue. I thought they would!
Neither the sexual assault of American citizens nor their irradiation using these machines are capable of stopping a determined terrorist from smuggling explosives on board. Neither can assure your security from the terrorists.
So why, then, are Americans being groped and irradiated? If that's not unreasonable search and seizure, I don't know what is.
Fedgov holds most of the cards in things like this. Bit late for that.
Still, the states hold a few big ones. We will see if Texas has the guts to lay it all out.
There's NO WAY they could be that stupid.
Last thing the dems and the government class want right now is a controversy over profiling vs random searches and wasted $billions...not to mention the issue of government power/control.
I hope Texas moves forward and calls their bluff. If not bluffing...what a wonderful political windfall.
As I recall Texas is one of the very few states to tell Holder and others in dee-cee NO, we are not going to do this or that.
And Texas is doing it on a regular basis.
By the way, did you send an email or make a call?
