What a top aide to Sarah Palin really thinks about Mitt Romney,Bristol Palin,Erick Erickson and more
The Daily Caller ^ | May 24, 2011 | Jonathan Strong

Posted on 05/23/2011 10:16:48 PM PDT by Bratch

A series of messages forwarded to The Daily Caller show a top aide to former Alaska Gov. and possible presidential candidate Sarah Palin mocking top political figures and even her boss’s own daughter, Bristol Palin.

RedState.com founder and CNN contributor Erick Erickson is “a total douchebag,” wrote Palin speechwriter and domestic policy adviser Rebecca Mansour in a May 22, 2010, message. “Greasy dumb ass with a talent for self-promotion. He threw himself in at the Gov’s SC rally. Self-promotion.” (Erickson said South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley invited him to the rally).

Mitt Romney supporters are “wacky as hell,” Mansour wrote, but usually Romney’s presence online is just an “AstroTurf brigade.”

“Would love to tell Mitt’s lackeys to stop backstabbing my boss anonymously,” Mansour wrote.

Then-California Senate candidate Chuck DeVore “wants to be the next Hugh Hewitt (or Huckabee). He knows he can’t win. He wants to become a ‘personality’. Give him a show to go away,” Mansour wrote. Palin endorsed Carly Fiorina over DeVore in the GOP primary for the race, angering some conservatives.

Mansour sent these embarrassing and revealing missives as “direct messages” on Twitter to an online-only acquaintance approximately a year ago. The person who received the messages forwarded them to TheDC.

Yeah I agree! This activist on the other side decided to cash in I bet on a private conversation or to be exact, tweets by handing it over to the DC.... There are many things said in private that many people already knew about it public: Eric Erikison rakes on people but says some snarky things about people! We all felt pro Palin or not, angered that Bristol was making a stupid decision to get back with Levi and Mitts online coverage is Astro-Turfed

Oh come on. She spoke her mind.

If this came out from any other candidates #2 with reckless charges towards Palin, I am sure others here would find it as ill advised and grounds for termination as I do on this. Why put this in writing EVER.

Devore and his people went after Palin for not endorsing him....RAM was defending her boss.....this stuff isn’t that bad, hell - an aide or Republican supporter to Romney today said that Palin and Bachmann were “crazy women”....we don’t have their names but that wad just as childish as ever

So? They are available to see. Big deal! One of her staffer’s has an opinion, and is a little protective over her boss? Good, Sarah has good people working for her, some may be a little green and have to know people are always going to twist what you say. Good grief, as a Californian, I appreciate DeVore - but he was not ready for the big time yet.

So now, you lower yourself to to mock the staffers looks because you can’t clearly articulate what is wrong with her opinions?

Twitter annoys me for some reason - I have no criticism of what was said, I do think she was a little naive to think it was private communication, unless she put it out there knowing it would get out -

I think Palin speaks pretty clearly herself, and I don’t find a mix of messages at all.

That is my problem with this woman. The childishness. If you have to vent on others in the Party, create a Nome De Plume like the rest of us and go off on FR. Having her name to this and the fact that she is the supposed right hand man of Palin puts this too close. Why should we accept the same crappy behavior from the Conservative side that we get from the Elitist you cite for the "crazy women" comment. Also, just look how far that attitude is getting those dopes. Palin can do much better.

I would even let the Erickson and Mittens thing slide, but DeVore is a solid Conservative and a lot of us were upset with Palin backing the RINO. At no point did anyone get the impression that he is a sleaze looking for a drive time radio slot. I don't like it.

You bet. Apparently from the attitudes from a majority on this thread, personal insults are cool.

Puleeeze, your faux outrage projection is so lame.

Now tell us what you really, really, think of Palin

It always has to circle back to PDS doesn’t it. I’m sure all the Palin supporters here are already digging through my posts looking for Palin hate. Feel free to. There will be little more than questioning whether she is running. My surprise is why you as a diehard supporter would circle the wagons on this. I don’t understand why everyone shrugs this off as silly when we wouldn’t accept it from others?

Red State had its own purge some months ago, or several.

Some of the more interesting posters who left were Achance and Vassar Bushmills.

I lurk at Red State but only post once every few months, so I don't know all the details.

But I have noted RedState has removed "birthers" and "Paulbots" and doesn't seem too fond of Sarah Palin enthusiasts.

Your mileage may vary.

Cheers!

Well, by mocking someone’s appearance, you kind of set yourself up for grief. You’re still not able to articulate what exactly is wrong with the statements, so I find myself bored with the exchange.

Take care -

Bad form on Mansour’s part to betray a trust with Sarah Palin to share *confidential* information with anyone. Mansour even worried that the information might be shared. She knew better, so this is very sad. I’m sure she regrets this more than anything, so prayers for her, too.

On the brighter side, Mansour knows exactly who she told! We will soon know the identity of her twitter *friend*.

Lesson learned.

I feel very sad for Sarah Palin. No wonder she finds it hard to trust anyone outside her own family.

Extra prayers for Sarah Palin and her precious family tonight.

Now that you mention it, the site is getting a little lame. I rarely hit it anymore. I can't even remember my sign in over there anymore. It just seems like they are a day late on news anymore and the news posted is uninteresting. I did not know about the purge but it adds up.

Don't know about the rest of what Rebecca said, but that's an accurate desciption of Erickson.

Oh come on Lazlo, you know what’s published is generally part of half-truths, and in politics it seldom is even a quarter way true if at all.

Someone playing,”He said she said” to get peoples attention should’nt be given any significance when it comes to candidates.

I'm a Palin supporter. While I think it's was very poor judgment for Rebecca Mansour to use Twitter to convey her thoughts (as anyone should realize by now, electronic messaging is forever) and she likely will suffer the consequences, I really didn't read anything surprising.

Erickson is a self promoter (which is fine) and a regular on CNN’s John King show. Maybe it's just me, but I do have issues with any “Conservative” who is seemingly happy working for CNN or MSNBC.

The Romney Team has a history of backstabbing and the Palin’s daughter has at times seemed goofy. Nothing new here

I think another dynamic is involved here. I find it interesting that these messages ended up at the Daily Caller. Why not The Blaze, or Townhall, or some Left Wing site? Nope, ends up at the Daily Caller, a site which seems to have a rooting interest for a certain potential Republican Presidential candidate, IMO.

It does have significance. She is the inner inner circle of SP’ staff and even though the DC does push Cain, it usually has straight stories and the staffer admitted to all of it to them the second time, so it is true. I just don’t like this behavior.

Don’t panic though. The morning crew will take over in a few hours and keep pummeling me into submission. I expect my ping box to be loaded to the gills till I give a full mea culpa. LOL.

Her tight inner circle doesn’t really get discretion too well, do they?

The fact that Palin’s own daughter gets targeted for snark lessens the sensationalism behind this.

It’s just one person’s catty off the record opinions, not reflective of Palin office gossip.

Tammy Bruce is ripping the daily caller to shreds on twitter over this, and so, it seems, are the comments after the article.
