My best friend lives in Joplin near 28th & Grand. It’s between St Johns and a high school my son said had damage. Praying they are ok
I have a real soft spot for SW Missouri. Lived in Neosho many years ago and have fond memories.

In any event, obviously in terms of numbers of tornadoes this was not nearly as significant an outbreak, but in terms of level of damage this at first glance looks worse than Tuscaloosa-Birmingham.
Was able to text my sister in Joplin who is a nurse. She said everything is gone. We are talking miles of densely packed commercial / residential city blocks. ATT cell service is down, so try texting your relatives, that seems to be working.

I wish I could tell you! It’s my husband’s family and I don’t know Joplin well enough to tell you where they are. I’m sorry! My sister-in-law, in Branson, was able to get hold of both sets of relatives long enough to know they were okay. Haven’t heard anything more. I’m praying for you! Scary stuff!
That area is very near where I live and they would not have been hit.

Did these people have any warning? At all?
Lived in Joplin for several years, got married at our house on Connecticut Street just off Rangeline. Used to hang out at Denny’s playing cards and drinking coffee. I don’t recognize anything they’re showing on the news right now.
Just a note folks, there’s still weather out that may be producing tornadoes. SW Missouri, NW Arkansas and NE Oklahoma are currently in play for tornados.
