HARTFORD Signaling that the fight over the controversial New Britain busway isn't finished, two state legislators are asking one of the top Republicans in Congress to block the project.
"There is no popular support for the project. The average person understands that it makes no sense, even in flush times," Sen. Joe Markley, R-Southington, and Rep. Whit Betts, R-Bristol, said in a letter to House Speaker John Boehner. "We urge you to do all in your power to stop the federal funding."
Connecticut is asking the Federal Transit Administration for $275 million to help build the roughly $570 million bus-only highway linking Hartford and New Britain.

We need to stop the high speed rail funding for nys, too.
Almost all the comments posted are against the busway and even pointing out the current buses are rarely full.
A Bus-only Highway? Sound like a waste of money to me, do the have that much real estate to waste?
Another black hole of cronyism.
Bus only highway??
That is the height of insanity
a busway?
this is satire, right?
Next your going to ask for research funding for high speed busses that can break the “wind barrier”

After Obama, the Fed, and the Left finish destroying our economy and making us all equal through the wonders of Communism, the busway will become a special highway for high-ranking Party officials. The busses for the proletariat will be forced back onto the poorly-maintained roads.
May be useful when the ruling class bans car ownership by the serfs.
Of course, the project is a payoff to the unions for whatever concessions they gave Malloy. He was never going to force them to do anything they didn’t want to do and this and the Uconn medical center expansion is a gift to them for playing along in his disingenuous game of ‘hardball’ designed to fool the idiot Connecticut voters. The only people that are going to be left in Connecticut are the poor and the old. Everyone else will be leaving.
A couple of weeks ago, I passed a bus going from Bedford to downtown Cleveland. It was about to get on the highway, so,,, no more stops to pick up riders. There was one passenger,,, as long as you classify the bus driver as a passenger! What a ridiculous waste of money. And don’t get me started about the Rapid Transit from Shaker Heights to Cleveland. It’s totally insane!
This is unions looking for work, union contractors looking to line their pockets, and politicians paying back unions for their support. Plain and simple. No public benefit.
In my small city, the buses that run at night usually are completely vacant except for the driver. Sometmes there may one or two riders. I can never figure out why the cities do not downsize at the slow times and run vans or minivans to save fuel costs? Why drive a huge bus all hours of day.
I never thought of that. If they build it you know sooner or later some lawmaker will pass a bill to allow it to be used for other traffic, such as politicians looking to avoid I-84. With someone like Malloy in office, you know it will be signed.
