Leave it to Newt Gingrich to take a dump over his entire party and the whole conservative movement in his unhinged efforts to find some way, any way, to fulfill what he sees (delusionally) as his destiny of being a world-historical figure. I have no idea what the latest bizarre political calculation it is that he thinks he is making, but it's absolutely idiotic politically, it's horribly wrong philosophically, and it give solace and succor to President Obama by undercutting the argument (an absolutely valid argument at that) that the individual mandate to buy health insurance is impractical, immoral, and unconstitutional.
So what has me exercised? Gingrich today strongly endorsed the individual mandate, absurdly (and meanly) blasted Paul Ryan's Medicare plan as "right-wing social engineering," and otherwise made an absolute jackanapes of himself.

#14.
I agree he should get out. He can only hurt Republican chances. As his abilities have withered on the vine, his ego has actually inflated.
McCain won because he was selected because of his bc long before the voters knew it.
To those who compare the two: The McCain Gingrich comparisons are ludicrous. McCain was never hated on a visceral and wide basis like Newt was in 94 by liberals and like he is now by conservatives in 2011. McCain never stumbled five times in 96 hours like McCain did now. Yeah, FREEPERS hated McCain the same way as they hate Newt, but NEVER EVER EVER did the public at large.
Using tidbits of history out of context is not instructive at all.
Ironically, he denies being for the individual mandate.
From what I can research, apparently he was for one back when he was fighting Hillarycare, and so was the Heritage Foundation. Later Heritage abandoned the idea as unworkable and extralegal.
Newt continued to flirt with some version of one, but when you scrape down to the bottom layer you find he mainly wants to make people pay for their own healthcare if they can afford to do so, whether before the fact or after the fact when they finally have to use healthcare. He really isn’t for the Obama mandate. He is for states developing some kind of plans of their own in which this responsibility factor would be in the mix. But now many years after Heritage dumped it, when pressed after his MTP appearance in which he seemed to support one, he now says there’s a way to get there without going unconstitutional or without states including a Romneycare mandate.
It is very, very confusing to unscramble the scrambled egg, though, and Newt is stuck with the mess, I’m afraid.
Doesn't mean he's not a smart guy ~ just that he's getting old.
If you want him out, you better start backing someone(with $$$) who will be on the same ballot. You have Iowa, N.H. and South Carolina to make Newt say “Uncle”.
LOL! Very humorous post in a good thread with a GRRRREAT title.
...and a BTTT! for you, rickmichaels!
No , McCain won because the Huckster was running interference for McCain against Romney .
The establishment will push Romney and Daniels ... Huntsman and Pawlenty as their respective backup clones ... Gingrich has no support from either side and should be smart enough to bow out now .
Also McCain is strongly pro-second amendment ... Newt allowed and supported passage of the draconian 1996 Lautenberg anti-gun amendment thus enabling it to become law . Newt is not to be trusted at all .
So that’s why Newt married her...she has Pelosi’s eyes.
..looks like Nancy Pelosi 50 years ago.........
AMEN!!!
I wouldn’t vote for Newt for dog catcher!
No McCain was selected.
