A new IBOPE Zogby poll shows Atlanta businessman Herman Cain vaulting into the No. 1 front-runner position among active candidates as the choice to win the GOP presidential nomination in 2012.
Cain, a longtime Pillsbury executive who later became chairman of the U.S. Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City, was the preferred choice of 14 percent of the likely Republican primary voters polled.
His showing placed second only to New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, who got 17 percent. Christie, however, has insisted repeatedly that he will not be running for president in 2012. Ron Paul placed third with 10 percent, followed by former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney, who had 9 percent.
Pollster John Zogby told Newsmax.TV in an exclusive interview that the sudden rise of Cain shows the degree of restlessness among GOP faithful, given their current options.
Hes not well known. Hes very plain speaking, Zogby said. But when someone enters the forum, as he did during that debate, and rises to the top, its kind of like Donald Trump, its kind of like Chris Christie: We dont like the field, this is a guy that we can believe in.
Cain was considered the winner of the recent Fox News debate held in South Carolina. His memorable applause line came when a panelist pointed out that he lacked experience holding public office. Cain pointed out that almost everyone elected to national office in Washington, D.C., had prior public service experience.

They re doing whatever it takes to make sure Palin stays low in the polls.
I agree it would be a bad idea and mistake to put Cain in as vice president, ala, a bone to the right. No, we are not the caboose any longer, we should be the engine now. The RINOs showed us how to lose, we don’t need to redo that one.
Watch the new polls coming out next week. They will show the trend that Zogby just posted as well. Christie is still polling but is not running.
I’ll be wearing a Gadsden t-shirt with black cargo shorts. I want to play up the “racist TEA Partyer” image. I have a “Cain-Crusader-2004” lapel pin from the Senatorial primary 7 years ago on the collar. Look for me.
We have a radio station here in Jersey that holds “Ask the Governor” segments. Christie comes on and answers many questions from people all over the state. During the most recent segment on, this past Thursday, he was adamant that he will not run for President or take the VP spot. He even said he has not decided on another 4 years as Governor of NJ. So I believe Americans better take him serious as a non-candidate.
I was driving so I couldn’t call in but wished I would have. We have Kelly Ripa’s dad as our Camden County Clerk, covers a large area. It appears that signs are not allowed to be placed along roadsides for campaigns, store sales any advertisement. People are paid to hold the signs instead of placing them in the ground. However, a recent bada-bing type of business opened up and signs were placed in the ground 5 miles away. I called Mr. Ripa’s office to see what the restrictions were and was told they did not know. They asked me to hold on and then hung up the phone. So I guess that means they just don’t give a shi@ that XXX advertisements aline major roads of NJ, but do care that a small business can’t advertise a sale. As a huge tax payer I wanted to ask the Gov is this NJ’s policy to be the capital of the bada bings?
“why does anyone believe this actual leftist dem party muslim who tried to throw the 2004 election to Kerry with his famous landslide phoney poll ?”
I wonder that myself. Zogby is Lucy with the football and we’re Charlie Brown. We never learn.
I think she's making sure she does things on her own time line, not the MSM's. Two years of campaigning is ridiculous so I figure she's taking it back to a more reasonable timeframe.
I like Cain as well. I'm all in for a Palin/Cain ticket!
That’s right, I almost forgot.....It’s all an evil conspiracy to keep Palin out........(got it!)
He might not be a part of the Ruling Political Class. The Eve of the Revolution is near...if the world does not end at 6.
The left would say we’re just nominating a black guy to go up against a black guy, proving FOR SURE that we’re absolutely racist.
[Of course, I don’t believe that... that that’s the way their malfunctioning little minds would spin it.]
So far he is under the MSM Radar. The second he is perceived or detected as a threat to the status quo they will attack.
Not one Penny for the obsolete GOP.
"He's not well known. He's very plain speaking," Zogby said. "But when someone enters the forum, as he did during that debate, and rises to the top, it's kind of like Donald Trump, it's kind of like Chris Christie: 'We don't like the field, this is a guy that we can believe in.'"
My fear is that he was part of the Federal Reserve. He may be a Decoy. Has this been addressed?
Says you! I live in NJ and voted for Christie because I didn’t want Corzine to get another term. To Hell I protest too much, I can’t protest enough about this fat blowhard.
If Cain becomes a threat they will do even worse. He is Black.
Can you imagine what a Cain candidacy would be like had he the money Mitt does?
It doesn't have to be that hard to think about. All we have to do is get behind the man and donate. If everyone gets behind one candidate instead of splitting their votes over a huge candidate pool, Herman can get all the funds he needs. Besides, having godly amounts of money doesn't guarantee anything. If he uses his funds smartly he can do a lot with a little. Honestly, I'd like to see that, it would be a great demonstration of his budgeting and managerial skills.
