I have seen a couple of posts on here regarding Herman Cain, and heard him on Neal Boortz' show lots of times. Boortz really seems to love the guy. And I am inclined to like anyone who is pro-Fair-Tax more than someone who is for continuing the current income tax mess, which costs America far more productivity than any sales tax that replaced it ever could.
But I haven't heard Cain talk about some controversial areas where I may well have concerns about his views on the Constitution. And where I have heard him talk on the issues, he's sometimes said troubling things.
First, while he's talked about race, he has not once stated outright that he would end affirmative action policies where he could. He's danced like a Romney on this where I have seen him speak or write about it, like he did here: http://www.boortz.com/Player/100950001/ http://chronicle.augusta.com/stories/2004/04/28/op_413767.shtml
A candidate's position on affirmative action must be unequivocable, "I'm against it." No "we need to be fair" or "considering race might be okay" or any of that crap. It's unconstitutional, racist, sexist and wrong. Why hasn't Cain said this?
Second, I don't know why Cain's dancing on foreign policy. If he doesn't have a plan for Afghanistan, fine. Who really is sure what to do about Afghanistan? But what would his overarching sense of the United States' military role be? That we must patrol the Red Sea and Persian Gulf, militarily stop Iran from getting the bomb, intervene preemptively--or not? That we should be stationing troops in Yugoslavia and Korea and Diego Garcia--or not? During the debate he wanted to "set up a committee" or study stuff, but that is not how to run your military or state department. I didn't agree with W on everything, but after the China spy plane mess, W got it together and had a plan when it came to foreign intervention: "Have a strong military and use it, or make it clear you can and will." Clear policy from the White House, unlike the constant finger in the wind of President Pollbama's administration, is crucial for our businesses and citizens because it makes clear to us and our opponents as to what we will do to protect our countrymen and interests abroad. Pick a course now, because it makes a difference to some of us, Herman.
Third, Cain was pro-TARP back in the day. What made TARP Constitutional? Why was he against auditing the Fed and then for it? Amd where does he come up with this stuff about TARP being a net payoff for taxpayers? See here:
http://004eeb5.netsolhost.com/hc133.htm
He comes across as a real bankster. I don't like that.
Fourth, what's Cain really think we should do about illegal immigration? I get the impression he wants to leave deporting these illegals to the states, and this is one area where the federal government SHOULD be involved. Building a border fence and deporting illegals are two things states shouldn't have to do.
Fifth, is he a federalist and constitutionalist, or really just a unitary goverment social conservative? Where does he stand on Gonzales v. Reich? What about the Commerce Clause and where it stops?
Sixth, how does any conservative support income redistributionism? He's come right out and said he's for the food stamp program. How does that jive with being a conservative?
Finally, and this is what perplexes me the most, no one has asked him why he supported a labor lawyer Democrat over a Republican for mayor of Omaha way back when he lived in Nebraska. Now, I don't know the whole story. Maybe Hal Daub (the GOP candidate) was a real RINO back then. But I doubt it from his record, and I don't know anyone conservative who would vote for a Democrat even over the worst Republican. Even the folks like me who couldn't stomach a vote for McCain didn't do something as stupid as voting for Obama.
I don’t know why he supported a democrat once, if he did. I voted for a Democrat once in a local race because they were actually more conservative than the Republican, so I’m not going to worry about it too much.
I love Allen West but he is not running. He is NOT running. He has said he believes that he needs to be fighting right where he is. West’s supporters really need to get behind one of the conservatives that are running. You can always go back if he changes his mind. But if you all wait too long, you are helping give an edge to the RINOS
Herman and others have spoken just as forcefully on these subjects as West, they are not weak by any stretch.
Just as an FYI to everyone... These “questions” sum up Ron Paul followers strategy to bring down Mr. Cain. I’m not saying they aren’t legitimate questions, but they HAVE been answered and many times.
On Mr. Cain’s page there are a handful of Ron Paul trolls that ask these things, then they are answered, and an hour later they are all asked again.
Please do your own research on Mr. Cain and come to your own conclusions. You can google hundreds of speeches on YouTube, you can find just about any article written on the man for the past 5 years or so right here on FR.
I have a list of links to a ton of Herman Cain info and such that I post from time to time, check them out.
LibertarianInExile....I just went o your FR page and it’s clean. You’ve done a terrific job of laying out your political foundation, I’m impressed! Love the quotes of the historic great philosophers of individual freedoms. I agree with you about RR and Goldwater!
I have an impression of Cain from listening a bit to his radio presentations but IMO his performance @ the SC debate was not very good and you are asking the right questions and these do need to be answered before I ill jump on the Cain band wagon.
If need is the criteria upon which we justify confiscation of wealth from others, I would guess your point of view would be rational. If personal property and individual rights are to be recognized, your last statement would be.... well sort of a collectivist statement.
So you would force them to be charitable. Is that what limited government means?
If Cain is elected President I hope he appoints Neal Boortz as Press Secretary. Wouldn’t that be fun.
How is Cain on guns? IMO, the Second AMendment is the canary in the coal mine. If the guy is wrong on this basic liberty, he’s going to be wrong on a lot of other things, too. If he gets this one right, he’s probably not a liberal in disguise.
Affirmative Action is WAY DOWN on my list of priorities. This man is not perfect and will not agree with everything I think makes a perfect candidate - THERE IS NO SUCH THING. The finest fish dinner still has bones in it but that doesn’t stop me from enjoying it!!!!! I think Cain could very well be our man.
So who do you support, Mr/Ms. Krauthammer/Rove-lite???
OK tried again and everything was fine. You certainly do have a lot of content on your profile! But that virus thing never happened before (it was quite daunting, to say the least) lol
And the acceptance of homosexuality and pedophilia
and no teleprompters ;o)
The neat thing is, he was not scheduled to speak that night but a speaker didn't show up so they asked if he's fill in. So it was totally off the cuff.
Then he went off for a trip to Israel.
When he came back, he found it had gone viral on YouTube - over 2 million hits.
That did a lot to catapult him into recognition - and it hasn't stopped since then. He's on media almost daily now - they're calling him "America's Congressmen."
What I’m saying is that as a practical matter our government will continue to see that people can eat. There is NO ONE who will run and/or win on stopping food stamps.
YET!
Listen CAREFULLY to what he says in response to the crowd asking him to run - at the end he says: “If it be His will...it'll be taken care of.” IOW, he is NOT closing the door.

As to WHEN to declare? Reagan didn't declare until November. If he stays out of the bust and bluster going on now with all the lackluster candidates and spends the next half year doing his job in Congress - and learning who the players are, what their strengths and weaknesses are - and THEN announces, he'll get the giant's share of media and will present a great relief for people who are dispirited at the lineup now.
I don't know, but I do know where Col. West is on it and every part of the Constitution = and he honors his Oath.
He also knows how to use guns - and wouldn't hesitate when needed.
BTW,meant to ask you - “stranger and pilgrim’ - is that in reference to the ‘Saints and Strangers” ;o)
your bus ride is your “car stamps” in most situations they are tax payer subsidized. enjoy your ride.

Decades ago, William F. Buckley wrote a piece in which he noted that poor people could live perfectlly healthy lives on a diet of bulgur wheat, dried milk, beans, and lard that the government could provide in quantity to those who wanted handouts. That should have happened a long time ago, and would be hellaless expensive than the bureaucratic mess that is here because of the “hunger” lobby.
Battling against food stamps is no loser. People buying steaks and cheetos in front of you at WalMart on their food stamp card—so they’re not embarrassed by being on welfare—is at best an annoyance to most people who have to work for their food. I think a lot of people are sick of able-bodied folks making taxpayers carry their weight. Worse, many food stamp recipients aren’t legally here in the first place as a lot of the folks taking apps aren’t overly concerned about anything but getting the app completed and another warm body on the rolls.
I read an article where he made that statement about supporting affirmative action only in terms of equal opportunities, but not quotas, but what does that mean, exactly? Does that mean he’s for minorities getting extra credit or extra exam points? I don’t accept that wishy-washy “explanation.” Either you’re for it or against it. This weaselly language he’s used makes it unclear whether he is or isn’t for discrimination under color of law.
