Decades ago, William F. Buckley wrote a piece in which he noted that poor people could live perfectlly healthy lives on a diet of bulgur wheat, dried milk, beans, and lard that the government could provide in quantity to those who wanted handouts. That should have happened a long time ago, and would be hellaless expensive than the bureaucratic mess that is here because of the “hunger” lobby.
Battling against food stamps is no loser. People buying steaks and cheetos in front of you at WalMart on their food stamp card—so they’re not embarrassed by being on welfare—is at best an annoyance to most people who have to work for their food. I think a lot of people are sick of able-bodied folks making taxpayers carry their weight. Worse, many food stamp recipients aren’t legally here in the first place as a lot of the folks taking apps aren’t overly concerned about anything but getting the app completed and another warm body on the rolls.
Some of us don’t make that much money, and find that those on food stamps live better than we do.
There is a significant number of these people. Food stamps are a winning issue with these people.
