Campaign Crawlers The Cain Train Picks Up Steam

By Robert Stacy McCain on 5.20.11 @ 6:08AM

Four years ago at the studios of WSB Radio in Atlanta, I interviewed talk-radio host Herman Cain, who had only recently recovered from cancer. He smiled as he vowed, "Death's going to have to catch me, and it's going to have to run fast."

Cain is smiling more than ever now, and running strong with a Republican presidential campaign that has surged to national prominence since the May 5 debate in Greenville, S.C. In a Fox News focus group of South Carolina GOP voters following that debate, pollster Frank Luntz asked for a show of hands: "How many of you think Herman Cain won the debate?" More than half the participants raised their hands. Luntz was flabbergasted, calling the result "unprecedented." Luntz then went around the room, asking what it was that made the retired restaurant executive so appealing.

"He's likeable," one man said, summarizing a key factor in Cain's campaign that seems to elude pundits. For the past two weeks, the political intelligentsia has struggled to understand how the former CEO of Godfather's Pizza, who has never held elective office, could have suddenly emerged as a contender in a crowded Republican 2012 primary field. It's never been a mystery to Cain's communication director Ellen Carmichael.

Yeah, well, if Obama doesn’t stop messing with Israel, he’s going to be “one heartbeat away” from the finger of God.

We went out to each lunch and then went to a department store afterwards. Hubby had on his Cain shirt. He got quite a few comments - very positive ones I might add. It was amazing!

Herman had expected only around 5,000, but this morning I heard it was at least 15,000 (or as CBS would say, around 1200:-)))

Great speech (as always) - great man.

It will be interesting to watch the MSM and other liberal deal with Cain.

OK this is how they will deal with him. When he does NOT get the nomination, they will unceasingly and ferociously attack the rank-and-file Republicans/conservatives/Tea Party patriots for being racists.

That’s how they will deal with it. They’ll turn a candidacy that you think will prove we’re not racists into more “proof” we are.

That’s it.

For now, they will ignore him. To criticize him would be “racist.” Then as you say, if he doesn’t get the nomination they will say it proves conservatives are racist.

Well, Cain had colon cancer. This is an easy cancer to spot, should it decide to come back. Frequent colonoscopies are the key. Once they see polyps, they zap them and then you are ok. As long as he’s getting regular medical attention, I don’t see the problem. Cancer is more like a chronic disease in many instances. As an RN, I’ve seen 99 year olds w/ colon ca in their histories.

Barry smokes and puts himself at great risk for lung cancer, strokes ...how about a good old fashioned heart attack? He’s also a former drug user, so in my opinion, he’s at about equal risk with Cain.

Liberals always turn their own biases on the opposition.

BO is NOT an American Black, he is an OWNED PUPPET (by Soros, radical communists, radical islamists, et al).

The MSM will call Herman Cain a whitey puppet in an attempt to hide BO’s strings.

For me it is down to three people and I don’t agree with them 100% all the time. Just Like I was upset at times with Mark Levin, but I still like Mark and download his podcasts to listen.

The fact is nobody is perfect. And that is fine, but some are better than others in the pack that could be running. So for me it is down to three people, with a fourth or fifth possible if they were to get in, but unlikely.

And that is Herman Cain, Michele Bachmann, and Sarah Palin. But if DeMint or if Allen West got in I would look at them.

Frankly, I’m not really looking for the race/sex card to be taunted at Obama. But it doesn’t matter. I’ve know about Herman Cain a while. I recall the event in 94 where he challenged Bill Clinton. I got reacquainted With Cain when he landed his own talk show. Not getting Neal Boortz locally, I streamed his show a number of times and heard commercials for Cain’s show. Which lead me to listen to podcasts and tune eventually. Seems like his fan base in the South, namely Georgia, wanted him running for over 2 years for President. So he has, finally. After spending sometime doing the tea party circuit, as well.

So, while there are about two or three things I don’t agree with Cain on, I fully support him. He is the best one of the current pack. But Michele Bachmann will get in soon. And maybe Sarah Palin. So we shall see.

With Cain I don’t agree with him on The Fed audits, wonder why he supported Bush’s bailout so much then once he got closer to contemplating a run changed his mind, least he changed his mind, and he seems to be supporting Israel whicch is really good, but I didn’t agree on his take relating to the not releasing of Bin Laden photos.

But, otherwise, I agree with him on at least 85 to 90% of stuff. So he is one I like a lot. So I support him.

Rumors were floating around that it was going to be much more than 5000, but his staff played it safe and only counted those who had RSVP’d :-)

It was a closed venue, they counted every person who came through the gate, so you can bet those numbers are pretty close :-)

In his formal announcement speech yesterday Cain hammered on Obama over his Israel blunder. I was there.

>>I would enthusiastically vote for Cain!

I already have, in the Senatorial primary in 2004, and will do so again.

>>It was a closed venue,

I’m painfully aware of this. I parked in the Aquarium deck, and had to walk to the opposite side of the park to get to the entry.
