A Tucson, Ariz., SWAT team defends shooting an Iraq War veteran 60 times during a drug raid, although it declines to say whether it found any drugs in the house and has had to retract its claim that the veteran shot first.
And the Pima County sheriff scolded the media for "questioning the legality" of the shooting.
Jose Guerena, 26, died the morning of May 5. He was asleep in his Tucson home after working a night shift at the Asarco copper mine when his wife, Vanessa, saw the armed SWAT team outside her youngest son's bedroom window.
"She saw a man pointing at her with a gun," said Reyna Ortiz, 29, a relative who is caring for Vanessa and her children. Ortiz said Vanessa Guerena yelled, "Don't shoot! I have a baby!"
Vanessa Guerena thought the gunman might be part of a home invasion -- especially because two members of her sister-in-law's family, Cynthia and Manny Orozco, were killed last year in their Tucson home, her lawyer, Chris Scileppi, said. She shouted for her husband in the next room, and he woke up and told his wife to hide in the closet with the child, Joel, 4.

Given this was a narrow hallway, some of the hits were probably ricochets.
Even if that is true, 60 times out of 71 shots fired? For one guy?
I would imagine once one starts shooting, they all would. For one suspect, with no return fire, it seems excessive to me, especially for so called "professionals". Sounds more like a hit to me.
Was also said his weapon was found still ON SAFETY!
The sad thing is that if the wife claimed her dead husband was shot because he was considering getting a sex change, the whole world would come unglued over his civil rights being violated. Since he’s not part of any protected group, he just a dead guy who would have been a republican vote. At least now his wife and kid will need to live off of government support and there votes will be harvested.
True dat.
Maybe we could just have a local militia to take out jihadis and gov't run amok.

yes. it was a West Point graduate. at Costco.
(i read the intital reports right here at FR,
and we know how often a West Point graduate, with a legal concealed weapon commits a crime... never.)
...a liberal employee objected to the concealed carry, and called police to report a “crazy man”.
many witnesses (including his girlfriend standing beside him), said he never drew the weapon, yet the police swore under oath he had a gun in his hand. 2 of the police got commendations.
ALL four of the Costco security cameras “malfunctioned”. and the hard drive linked to them “went bad” and they were unable to recover ANY of it...
(coincedently, the person in charge of it, was the same person who made the police call...)
i will NEVER shop at Costco again...
Completely. Or if, as people have said, this had happened under Sheriff Joe or Babeu’s watches... all HADES would have broken loose. Every scrap of paper would be turned over from the garbage, there would be 24-7 investigation, the racism cries would never end, so on and so on.
Since it’s a leftist radical in the People’s Republic, all is forgiven (although at least the Red Star IS running the story daily, so that’s something).
This Sheriff is the same “cat” who said he would not enforce AZ 1070 immigration bill. What a piece of crap.
blackdogs’s comment hits the target. This calls for action. For all you Freepers making grandiose statements like “if they come around my neck of the woods, ill show them the business end of my “ or “if SWAT attacks my family, they will be sorry” or “I’ll drop as many as I can” or “they better not come around here” or “etc.” This is your wake up call. All your Internet words don’t mean poop. You will be picked off one by one if you aren’t organized and make life interesting for dirtbags that do this type of thing to you and yours (and SWAT doesn’t have a monopoly on this type of murder).
And another drug war cheerleader weighs in. Feeling pangs of guilt?
Just commenting on the job the media should be doing and doesn’t
lol. I don't cry tears for drug dealers who get kids hooked. I don't believe in lying by using the term "medical pot" when there is nothing medical involved in the sham.
Absolutely.
I cant believe that the SWAT team couldnt clear one frigging house in less than an hour. Holy crap.
Outrageous.
Why do we need so many SWAT teams? How often does the city of Tucson need a SWAT team right now?
If you have to have them, have them only in major cities like Detroit, LA, Phoenix, Dallas, etc. I just cant see many situations that would require the immediate need of a SWAT team without proper foresight.
Use that money we save for more patrolmen
I was unaware that we even had such a thing until I saw the truck in the parking lot.
Why should you? These are boom times for drug cartels. They've never been richer or more powerful.
I don't believe in lying by using the term "medical pot" when there is nothing medical involved in the sham.
Do you believe in the original meaning of the Commerce Clause and Tenth Amendment?
Another unintented consequence of the wars on drugs, talking back, texting, fatty foods and hurtful thoughts.
I’ve been tracking this murder.
NOTHING to date indicates this was a anything other than the murder, under the color of law, of a civilian by an inept and/or corrupt police force.
He was only 26 years old.
Does anyone here know if his inactive reserve status in the USMC was completed prior to his murder?
Abuse of liberty ends up in the loss of liberty.
As Ben Franklin said: "Only a virtuous people are capable of freedom. As nations become more corrupt and vicious, they have more need of masters."
"Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other." John Adams
"The diminution of public virtue is usually attended with that of public happiness, and the public liberty will not long survive the total extinction of morals." Samuel Adams
"Lastly, our ancestors established their system of government on morality and religious sentiment. Moral habits, they believed, cannot safely be on any other foundation than religious principle, nor any government be secure which is not supported by moral habits." Daniel Webster
The man at Costco was named Eric Scott.
