In truth, the ideas and images in mens minds are the invisible powers that constantly govern them. - John Locke, English philosopher, physician
The American evangelicals whose frenzied scriptural arithmetic points to the Second Coming of Christ 2,000 years after his birth are engaged in an activity which has been threatening the stability of the Christian Church since the second century; they are trying to align Gods calendar with mans. - Damian Thompson, author, The End of Time

MIDDLE EAST, INDIA, May 19, 2011 I bumped into Harold Camping when I came across his book 1994?
Since he put a question mark at the end of the title I didnt write him off completely because much of what he talks and writes about is certainly found in the Bible.
SNIP SNIP
In fact 1 Thess 5: 2 says, for you know very well that the day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night.
But Camping figures its okay to work out the year and the month and in fact goes on and tells us both a month, a day and an hour - he says Jesus' return will probably happen with a massive earthquake around 6pm on May 21, 2011 in which ever part of the world you are!
America is full of 'experts' in every field you can think of and at the age of 89, Camping cannot be denied his expertise in the Bible, which he claims he has researched for most of his life.
He is basically telling people they cannot take the plain meaning of what is said in the Bible to understand the scriptures, but with his God given key he can, while everyone else has misinterpreted when the end times will happen.

In 2003 the Cubs and Red Sox were both in their leagues' championship series. I was predicting the "End of the World" Series if both progressed.
2 Peter 3
3 First of all, you must understand that in the last days scoffers will come, scoffing and following their own evil desires. 4 They will say, Where is this coming he promised? Ever since our fathers died, everything goes on as it has since the beginning of creation. 5 But they deliberately forget that long ago by Gods word the heavens existed and the earth was formed out of water and by water. 6 By these waters also the world of that time was deluged and destroyed. 7 By the same word the present heavens and earth are reserved for fire, being kept for the day of judgment and destruction of ungodly men.
LMAO at Huckabee
I’m buying the Bletchley Park computer.
So will Joan Crawford.................
This repeats what some Jehovah Witnesses did in the late 1970’s. Was that Camping, too?
I wonder.
Could ONE of the original twelve disciples still be alive and walking the earth?
John, maybe?
And if so, where is he?.............
What need does he have to write his staff a farewell letter? Shouldn’t they all be raptured together? Unless he’s being raptured someplace else with pretty blue water and pool side service. I’m more confuzed.
Fear not - it will be Saturday in Australia when it is Friday in the USA. If nothing happens in Australia on Sat. May 21, 2011 their time, then Friday, May 20, 2011 we are all home free and clear.
Or we all got left behind...............
RE: What need does he have to write his staff a farewell letter? Shouldnt they all be raptured together?
I am not a psychologist, but I know something of human nature... deep in his heart Camping fears that he’s going to be wrong again. He’s been wrong before when he predicted 1994 to be the year the world ends.
A second wrong prediction will make him lose ALL CREDIBILITY. You know the adage — “Fool me once...” (can you imagine how that person who spent $150,000 of his life savings on warning ads is going to feel about him on May 22?).
He writes this letter as a signal that he’s stepping down soon if the prediction does not pan out. After all ( like Helen Thomas ), he’s 89 years old and his retirement IS LONG OVERDUE.
I just hope that he retires, and if he does, someone more reasonable and orthodox takes the helm of Family Radio. It is one of the very few stations in this country that still plays the good old fashion hymns of the faith ( yep, no contemporary Christian music ).
I still listen to the station for the inspirational music but tune out when Camping’s Q&A Open Forum comes on.
Well, as I see it, unless Billy Graham, all the Catholic Priests, Protestant Ministers, and other notable religous leaders are taken up in the process, we are OK for now.
Deuteronomy 18:22
If what a prophet proclaims in the name of the LORD does not take place or come true, that is a message the LORD has not spoken. That prophet has spoken presumptuously, so do not be alarmed.
RE: I wonder.

Well, there’s this legend of the Wandering Jew...
The original legend concerns a Jew who taunted Jesus on the way to the Crucifixion and was then cursed to walk the earth until the Second Coming. The exact nature of the wanderer’s indiscretion varies in different versions of the tale, as do aspects of his character; sometimes he is said to be a shoemaker or other tradesman, sometimes he is the doorman at Pontius Pilate’s estate.
Camping had to do some handwaving dismissal to get around the time zone issue...
“God doesn’t deal in time zones”
Perhaps Camping simply fears death and wishes to be raptured before it happens.
If you’ve read “Pilgrim’s Progress”, the river scene is the allegory for having to pass through death to get to your reward.
False prophets were to be stoned to death in OT times.
They took it pretty seriously.
