A British tourist called the Islamic prophet Muhammad a terrorist in a heated row with an electronics salesman in a Dubai shopping mall, a court heard yesterday.
Andrew Graham, 40, faces spending a year in a Dubai jail if he is convicted of insulting Islam.
In a written statement produced before the Dubai Court of Misdemeanours yesterday, the Pakistani salesman said: ‘He laughed and said that I’m crazy and that prophet Muhammad was not a peaceful man but he is a terrorist.’
‘I told him he was crazy because they were terrorists and they kill people and bomb each other. I didn’t say anything bad about Muslims and the prophet.’

Bingo. Dubai is certainly more liberal than most Muslim countries, but it is still Muslim, and people don’t have the freedoms we have. If you’re there, it’s a good idea not to pop off about not liking Muslims.
And they want to be known as a congenial vacation spot. Very Dubai-ous to me.
Why do we buy oil from that part of the world? Shouldn’t we be exploiting oil shale in our own country rather than funding terrorists indirectly by buying oiling from countries that support terrorism and suppress freedom of expression?

As if. Unless you are a diplomat, or a missionary willing to lose your life, I think you are crazy to go to Dubai. For vacation? I wouldn’t relax for a New York minute.

Isn’t being called a shaheed considered an ‘honor’ for Muslims? He should argue that his, most likely, English term of ‘terrorist’ is usually translated that way... and thus a badge of honor.

I’m not a diplomat or missionary - Just a hard working man supporting our US Forces in the Middle East. Company based me here in Dubai so that I’m only a couple of hours away from my furthest customer. The only time I fear for my life is when I travel to Iraq or Afghanistan.
With a little common sense, it is very easy to get by here and there isn’t a statistic in the world that would show New York safer than Dubai.
