While the idea of naming a U.S. Naval ship after labor leader Cesar Chavez has roiled some, California Democrat Sen. Barbara Boxer is thrilled that the activist will be receiving the honor.
Boxer called Secretary of the Navy Ray Mabus Tuesday to thank him for the decision.
I applaud Secretary Mabus for continuing the Navys rich tradition of naming these supply ships after pioneers, explorers and visionaries by honoring César Chávez, who worked tirelessly to promote fair working conditions and equal rights for all Americans, Boxer said in a statement.
This is a fitting tribute to Chávez, who served in the Navy, and follows the Navys recent decisions to name other supply ships after American visionaries from Medgar Evers to Amelia Earhart to Lewis and Clark.
Republican California Rep. Duncan Hunter, a Marine veteran who served in Iraq and Afghanistan, had a very different opinion. He said that it was indicative of the Navys politicization.

Wonder if Boxer knows that Chavez was against illegal aliens.I seriously doubt it and the libs that do seem to conveniently forget it.

Republican California Rep. Duncan Hunter, a Marine veteran who served in Iraq and Afghanistan, had a very different opinion. He said that it was indicative of the Navys politicization. The American military is no place for social engineering. It has one function, to defend America from its enemies. Anything else creates disorder, which lowers morale and readiness.

At one point, Chavez sent his goons to attack Mexican strikebreakers who had been brought over the border in south Texas. Lib revisionists and their media shills have been busy erasing this from the record, Orwell style, for years.

As for Ray Mabus, what a wad of stinking bilge. You couldn't have picked a more appropriate phrase for Mabus. He's the one ultimately responsible for the two ships being named for Chavez and Murtha.
As for Pelosi and Murtha, they're two of a kind with the exception Pelosi's still breathing, guess it's true that slime sticks together.

I can’t believe this deranged woman was returned to the Senate another six years just last November.

What's next, the USS Nikita Khruschev? USS Leonid Brehznev? How about the USS Emma Goldman? USS Louis Farrikan?
We are naming ships after crooks and anti-Americans.

“And not a bad point to point out on general principle, so Latinos are not brainwashed to believe otherwise.”
Exactly. Likewise, we shouldn’t lump in Chavez with the likes of Guevera. That’s so patently knee jerk absurd, it’s sad to read on here.
In the big scheme of things, Chavez was a hero in the same way a Harvey Milk was a hero. We need to recognize their importance... with limits. Naming a warship after Chavez is ludicrous - and it’s strange his supporters on the Left would support that. They probably don’t. Boxer is insane.

Cesar Chavez was a union thug who, as I recall reading, died in a whore house. I also recall (judging from the news clips of the time) that he was the only human ever that could gain substantial amounts of weight while on a "hunger" strike.
Naming a United States Navy vessel after this fungus is, I suspect, is an attempt to demoralize our fine Navy men and women (but won't work, they have too much character.)

It is camp runamok, isn’t it Connie?
They must lie awake at night, conjuring ways
to put another pinprick in our precious American
traditions and ideals, demeaning our heroic
military by aligning it with a union thug organizer.
