A key senator has asked the Social Security Administration to investigate how people who live their lives role-playing as adult babies are able to get taxpayer-funded disability payments after one of them was featured on a recent reality TV episode wearing diapers, feeding from a bottle and using an adult-sized crib he built.
Sen. Tom Coburn, Oklahoma Republican and the Senates top waste-watcher, asked the agencys inspector general to look into 30-year-old Stanley Thornton Jr. and his roommate, Sandra Dias, who acts as his mother, saying its not clear why they are collecting Supplemental Security Income (SSI) benefits instead of working.
Given that Mr. Thornton is able to determine what is appropriate attire and actions in public, drive himself to complete errands, design and custom-make baby furniture to support a 350-pound adult and run an Internet support group, it is possible that he has been improperly collecting disability benefits for a period of time, Mr. Coburn wrote in a letter Monday to Inspector General Patrick P. O'Carroll Jr.

The inspector generals office didnt return a message seeking comment.
In an email response to The Washington Times, Mr. Thornton threatened to kill himself if his Social Security payments are taken away, and said the television episode showing him doing woodwork oversold his abilities.
You wanna test how damn serious I am about leaving this world, screw with my check that pays for this apartment and food. Try it. See how serious I am. I dont care, the California man said. I have no problem killing myself. Take away the last thing keeping me here, and see what happens. Next time you see me on the news, it will be me in a body bag.

I agree - who would care if he offed himself? He’s a sick, twisted loser -
Tons of waste, fraud and abuse. And the left says there is no place to cut, that the debt is a revenue problem..
Why not take the checks from 10 of them and build a house with a hundred bunk beds and a community bath and put a hundred of them in at a time. Watch how quick they get back on their feet if they have to live like that instead of a nice apartment all for themselves. If they can’t support themselves, let them bunk with all the other losers.

Agree 100% if the libs want welfare programs it should be at the expense of those reviving it in the form of dignity and being uncomfortable. It should never be comfortable. Those who are truly hopeless will appreciate a warm meal and place to sleep, those who are lazy will get off their duffs.
Ok by me. Buh bye!
People work hard every day, sometimes just getting by, and this scumbag expects to sit around in his diapered butt and collect a government check? And it takes a U.S. Senator to question it? Cut off the check — let him sink or swim or off himself. I really don’t much care which one he chooses.
But this guy, even though he might be one of the more egregious examples, is an ice crystal on the tip of the iceberg as far as abuse of the disability system is concerned. I have an acquaintance who recently went on disability because of an injury. He can no longer do the job he once did. But he isn’t blind or deaf, he isn’t in a wheelchair, he isn’t laid out permanently in bed — he goes out and parties with his friends and does work around his place. Why can’t he train to do some other kind of work that is not as physical as his old job was?
Do rhey make body bags that big?
I read the article. I would like to know what doctor is signing off on his “disability” and on what basis. The doctor should also be investigated and penalized. Same goes for the caretaker. It would be nice to know the value of the free benefits they are getting. Probably SSDI payments, medicaid, food stamps, subsidized rent, at least, if not additionl benefits. My wild guess would be they are clearing over $50,000 tax free, of the money we all work for.
I agree. They should house them on an institutional basis. Then if they work for 6 months or some time frame, maybe they get a private room or something.... but don’t make it so comfortable for able-bodied people to be on the dole for all of their needs.
SSI is not the same as SSDI. SSI is Supplemental Security Income - a welfare payment administered by Social Security. The money does NOT come from the SSA trust fund. SSDI is Social Security Disability Income - it's based on your work history.
The most he can get on Federal SSI is $674 a month. That does not include whatever optional state supplement he gets.
I have no problem killing myself.”
Me either.
Next time you see me on the news, it will be me in a body bag.
