Strauss-Kahn was set up, French say
When news broke that Dominique Strauss-Kahn was arrested in New York on criminal sex charges, theories that the IMF chief had been set up began circulating in France.

In the immediate aftermath of Dominique Strauss-Kahn’s dramatic arrest, the majority of French people were inclined to believe that the managing director of the International Monetary Fund was the victim of a conspiracy, an opinion poll revealed on Wednesday.
The survey, conducted by French polling agency CSA after New York City police charged Strauss-Kahn with sexually assaulting and attempting to rape a hotel maid in a luxury hotel, found that 57 percent of people interviewed thought he was set up. Just 32 percent of people thought he was not the victim of a plot and a further 11 percent had no opinion.

The Nevada Supreme Court denied O J any getting out of jail card or a retrial just yesterday.

If this scandal was engineered, I would suspect some interested party who wanted to reduce or eliminate the current head of the IMF - and the parties that got him to that position - from influence in picking his successor, and that they wanted his successor to be chosen sooner than would have been the case waiting for the end of his term. As much as non-European capitals have been pushing for a non-European head at the IMF, any culprits may have been from a nation outside Europe. Just conspiracy guessing.

but, while i think false accusations are MUCH more common, than most people realize, this wasn’t an American girl.
this was a lady who grew up in Africa.
(and a Muslima. while the terrorists sure like their porn and sex, Muslim women are not known for being promiscuous. ...i had a Muslim girlfriend who was terrified even at the idea of being seen in a public Chucky Cheese with me and my son...)

i believe she didn’t report it, until after she got home, and probably had people encourage her to report it.
(and it’s quite possible, he did the same to other maids, who were too afraid to report it at all.)
According to a report I saw, it was in her mouth, and she spit it out. That's why the NYPD carried away a generous chunk of $3000/night carpeting.
