WASHINGTON (AP) - Researchers commissioned by the nation's Roman Catholic bishops to analyze the pattern of clergy sex abuse over decades have concluded that homosexuality, celibacy and an all-male priesthood did not cause the scandal. The report from the John Jay College of Criminal Justice in New York said about 44 percent of the known abuse cases involved priests who were ordained in the 1940s and 1950s, at a time when seminaries did not properly train them to live a celibate life. These men were not equipped to withstand the social upheaval of the 1960s, which was a time of an increase in sexual deviancy and a spike in crime in society at large, the authors said.

Bump
If priests had been caught dating adult women, wooing them with champagne (or to be realistic, bad white wine) and filet mignon, I might believe this scenario. But chasing little boys around the sacristy? Come on! We’re not that dumb!
your #42 is brilliant! you nailed about 4 complex, seriously misunderstood issues, in that one short message.
Was that book Goodbye, Good Men? As I recall (it's been quite a few years since I read the book) the author believes there was a deliberate effort to get homosexually inclined men as instructors into seminaries, because of a belief amongst "liberal" theologians that such men would be more sympathetic to women and feminism-and have more "broad minded" stances on various social issues in general.
it wasn’t only the Lavender Mafia that infiltrated it.
and i don’t imagine Dodd cared if her recruits were gay or not...
“I, myself, put some 1,200 men in Catholic seminaries,” Dodd publicly declared.”

The Dodd book sounds interesting. I did a quick search and it apparently is being republished by a print on damnd publisher at $22.00 apiece, via abebooks. The older , original copies are being sold for $100.00 and up!
interesting! i am glad more people are curious, and learning. i never read the book, the articles about her were enough, to show yet again, that many diverse groups have wanted to destroy the church, for a long time. not conspiracy theory either. simply a question of why and how.
(and i think some recruits like Dodd’s even influenced Vatican II. her operation can’t have been the only one.
so I am glad to see the recovery by young dedicated priests, ably led by a brilliant “rottweiler”, and one of the few world leaders to stand up and condemn violence against Christians of any denomination, by the “Religion of Peace”.)
I do not have to wonder why 'they' rehash old news with as always editorial spin. It is the same story over and over again with the homosexualists that promote homosexual sex normalcy and equivalency?
It as well is not lost on this reader that Breitbart joins in with the homosexualist gang and publishes this 'finding' of nothing that is touted as a significant finding of something.
Last I heard, celibacy, was not marrying and has nothing to do with sexual activity but rather marital state. I think the term they missed was 'chaste'
Finally, when a majority of the sexual abuse was male on male -NO study is needed to confirm it a homosexual problem.
The fact that this study could not confirm anything does not as a result deny anything either UNLIKE the headlines imply.
In these areas at this time the RC clergy were respected, admired, revered. It was a big deal to have the Pastor over to your house for Sunday dinner. You were defined by your parish.
Becoming a nun or a priest was a respected, honorable career choice and the clergy were woven into the fabric of the people.
After WW2 the great rush to the suburbs happened, diluting the homogeneous nature of these groups' environs. Now these Catholics lived with each other (nationality-mixing) but also lived among protestants, Jews and athiests.
The clergy no longer played the dominant role that they had earlier. As a result the career choice of the priesthood lost some of its appeal for straight men. Marriage and family looked far more fulfilling. It took into the sixties for this to start to play out.
The lessening of straight numbers into the priesthood left a void. the void was filled slowly but then aggressively by queers who were looking for a career that explained away their lack of a wife.
As more queers entered the priesthood they started to assume positions of power in the seminaries. They encouraged more queers to follow their path. Within a short time many seminaries became over-whelmingly queer and the idea of celibacy was thrown to the wind.
These seminaries became factories that churned out queer priests by the truckload and dumped them into unsuspecting parishes, many of which were now run by queer pastors.
These undisciplined scumbags ruined hundreds of lives and drove millions from the Church.
That’s the book. A kind freeper sent me a copy and I haven’t read the whole thing yet, I really need to take the time to do so.
Adult queers homosexually abusing young boys BUT, according to the paid academic whores, homosexuality had nothing to do with the abuse and neither did pederasty. This report makes as much sense as would any report assuring us that drunk driving has nothing to do with alcoholic beverages and nothing to do with motor vehicles.
The academics also absolve celibacy which certainly makes sense based upon common sense. Does anyone think that normal heterosexual husbands will be inclined to abuse the newspaper boy if their wives are away for a few weeks??? Or likely to abuse the newspaper boy at all??? Why is it any different for NORMAL HETEROSEXUAL priests? One is either a queer pederast or one is not.
If the offending pervert priest is discovered, boot him out of the priesthood. The Church will not suffer. Leave it to the prosecutors to prosecute him in the secular courts. If convicted, throw the jail cell key away.
a man touches a boy than it is homosexuality as well as child molestation .
No matter how the media and the elitist establishment spin it , the Catholic church had a homosexual problem as well as a child molestation one
That is an interesting theory. Do you think it applies equally to celibate life for women, such as sisters and nuns? Or do you think women are inherently more suited to a chaste life?
It wasn’t until I read your comment I realized the “abuse crisis” has not seemed to include any cases of sisters molesting children, teens, male or female. It is, as far as we know, apparently a problem of 100% male behavior.
Very well stated. You hit on several key points in a logical way. I wish you would shape your post into a letter and send it to the USCCB, and while you’re at it a copy to the American Psychiatric Assn.
