PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Four white Philadelphia teachers charge in federal race-bias lawsuits that a black principal suggested they were unfit to teach black students.

The teachers work at a predominantly black school in the city’s East Falls neighborhood.

Their lawsuits say a former principal had them read an article that said “white teachers do not have the ability to teach African American students.”

Statement: " “white teachers do not have the ability to teach African American students.”

Response: The statement assumes that the students can in fact be taught.

That’s why they call it Philthadelphia or Filthadelphia, take your pick.

Exactly. I hate lawsuits as well, but taking one’s own medicine can only be good for these people and make them think twice, if they think at all.

When whites look at this suit and say, “Whites should not sue, in this manner...” what they REALLY mean come from the French slogan, “Nobless oblige”.,

It was explained to me as "the white mans burden."

Actually, I am more of a "Calvinist."

***white teachers do not have the ability to teach African American students.***

So why, back in 1957 Little Rock, did black students put their life on the line to desegregate the schools?

Just so they could go to a white school, lay their heads on the desk, and refuse to learn?

It’s “y’all is” (singular) and “all y’all is” (plural).

Discrimination of any sort has to be minimized and the only way to get any justice is the courts after all other remedy's have failed. No lawyers should get rich on the public dime.

From the scores I see coming out of predominately black schools, it is possible that certain black students are not capable of being taught anything by black or white teachers,Imean anything other than basketball scores.

This isn’t going to be popular around here, but unfortunately, this principal is 100% correct if we are talking about AA schools located in the “hood.” My sweetie teaches on the southside of Chicago, at a Catholic school in the Englewood area. Google that sometime. When his teaching partner (an AA lady in her 50’s) is absent, it is a wasted day. The kids are unruly & disrespectful. They believe they don’t have to listen to a word he says because he’s not one of “them” and will tell him that to his face.

I sent him this essay to read a few months ago and asked his opinion of it and I got a one word answer: “Yep”

Btw, Dr. Nemko did not author the referenced piece:

http://martynemko.blogspot.com/2009/06/white-teacher-speaks-out-what-is-it.html

The title of the piece is “What is it Like to Teach Black Students?”

I would add some words to it, however. Such as “in the hood” as this is not as big of a problem in more suburban, middle class districts.

I can’t speak from experience as you and your husband can. The school in this case is an elementary school. If it is so bad, we can’t teach them at that age, then hope is truly lost for them.

His school is K-8. After grade 4, it’s all over but the shouting. We freepers had a conversation along these lines last week:
