PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Four white Philadelphia teachers charge in federal race-bias lawsuits that a black principal suggested they were unfit to teach black students.

The teachers work at a predominantly black school in the city’s East Falls neighborhood.

Their lawsuits say a former principal had them read an article that said “white teachers do not have the ability to teach African American students.”

I know that it might be horrible to hear they you aren’t as good as a black teacher when teaching black kids but we have enough problems. Tony Williams,the former mayor of Washington D.C., was criticized because he was not black enough and spoke standard English correctly. He replied that he was taking a Berlitz class on Ebonics was working on his pronounciation of “Yo.” I laughed my ass off.

This FReeper doesn't agree. It is about time the cannons are turned back on those firing them all the time. Lawsuits (especially if successful) and stories like this reinforce the point that whites can and are subject to racial discrimination. Putting up with it says the opposite, and can even establish precedent.

I realize the lawyers will make dough from this, but in the long run if we make it clear that whites won't put up with discrimination either, maybe these organizations will be scared of getting sued by EVERYONE,throw up their hands and implement truly color-blind policies (i.e, basing things on merit instead of skin pigment). When that happens these lawsuits stop and the lawyers go back to chasing ambulances.

When whites look at this suit and say, “Whites should not sue, in this manner...” what they REALLY mean come from the French slogan, “Nobless oblige”.

Literally that slogan means, “nobility obligates”, which means being NOBLE obligates you do do something you don’t want to (like alm for the poor), or to refrain from some action you feel tempted to give into (like kicking a sleeping drunk from your doorstep).

But unwittingly that impulse is VERY racist —why does simply BEING white make you, “noble”...?

No...the proper reaction is to ABSOLUTELY sue the pants off them, in other words, to go about a practice of...

...KEEPIN’ IT REAL.

The long term is for everyone to be mature, but if they can’t, “act white”, might whites instead act black?
