In an effort to set the world record for self-implosion, Newt Gingrich laid a mine at his feet then promptly stomped on it.
The official end of the still-minty-fresh Gingrich candidacy came when an informed Iowa voter shook his hand, and before ol Newtie could tear away, gave him a verbal judo toss into a long overdue retirement.
The exact quote: Get out now before you make a bigger fool of yourself. Newt knew it was over, you could see it on his face as he walked away. Gingrich was instantly transformed into a sad, broken, political huckster.

Newt, “Turn Out the Lights the Party’s Over”!
The Republicans and Democrats better wise up, because the people are FED UP.
A Tea Partier already completely Newtered him a couple of years ago.

Whatever, it’s Romney anyways. It always has been. And he’s gonna lose. Senate seats are what 2012 is going to be about. period.
Hopefully we're done feeding his ego now...
Is it up to Michele B.?
Here’s the actual encounter she had with Gingrich and his excuses for supporting Scozzafava:

We need more tea party rally’s to express our frustration and force some one fresh to prominence.
Who was that man that said that to Newt? He should be given an award!!
I’m not as pessimistic as you are. I don’t believe Romney has a chance in hades of getting the nomination.....

Trump? Huckabee? and Newty too?
What ever are we to do?
I remember the congressional revolution in 1994 that centered around the “Contract with America” and played a major role in Republicans taking control of both houses for the first time since the early 50’s.
I’ll bet 9 of 10 people associate this historical happening with Newt. Actually, he didn’t author the plan which actually came from a Ronald Reagan State of the Union address in the mid 80’s, but he was up front and got in front of the parade. He was minority whip before the election and became Speaker as the result of his opportunistic effort.
At the time I admired his spunk because I believe heroes are born of opportunity. However, I also thought that becoming speaker and rolling with the momentum voters had given him was a role he should have played out. A role he was obligated to play out because of the trust we bestowed upon him along with that of his congressional colleagues. Instead, his giant self absorbed head took over and he jumped into the race for President while Bill Clinton was still strong in the polls and playing the independent middle like a dime store kazoo.
If Newt was as smart as he wants us all to think he is, he would have done his duty, made himself a memorable speaker and waited to run for a higher office until he had created a record of service that would trump his poor domestic image. Instead he squandered a great opportunity - I’d say his duty to complete the mission.
Now he is back with a history of having done nothing saying, “Vote for me because I’m smarter than them ...AND YOU!”
Well, Newtster - I ain’t buyin’.
I wonder if he did all the work to set the the support organizations, then realized he has almost no chance. Maybe he is positioning to be VP with Romney?
Well, you’re right that Romney can’t win in November. I won’t vote for him. More likely that I’ll vote for a Libertarian at that point, or do as I did when McCain was the nominee: Sit on the couch.
Gingrich was instantly transformed into a sad, broken, political huckster.
In order to be transformed he would have had to have
been something else in the first place.
Give it up Neut, don’t embarrass us further.
Remember how Newt was “sleeping” with a staff woman at the same time Clinton was doing Monica?
Yeah! Let’s nominate the guy who couldn’t even defeat McCain!
What is that definition of insanity...Doing the same thing over and over while expecting a different result?
That’s not insanity.
It’s stupidity.
