Gingrich Calls GOP Medicare Plan 'Right-Wing Social Engineering' (supports individual mandate)
The Wall Street Journal via Foxnews.com ^ | May 16, 2011

White House hopeful Newt Gingrich called the House Republican plan for Medicare "right-wing social engineering," injecting a discordant GOP voice into the party's efforts to reshape both entitlements and the broader budget debate.

In the same interview Sunday, on NBC's "Meet the Press," Mr. Gingrich backed a requirement that all Americans buy health insurance, complicating a Republican line of attack on President Barack Obama's health law.

The former House speaker's decision to stick with his previous support for an individual mandate comes days after former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney defended the health revamp he championed as governor, which includes a mandate.

I do believe that the past 10 - 14 years, have separated many GOP political elites so far from the reality of the REAL political landscape of America that they really have zero clue that what they are doing is suicide.

Too much K street, MSM, & lobbyists, too little common sense.

Goodbye Newt - Neither you nor Mitt are going anywhere but down the tubes. - Bye.

Yep. Newt can go ahead and defend something already found to be unconstitutional by a Federal court. As with his support for AGW and taxing the air we breathe, and to paraphrase the school marm in Blazing Saddles, this just goes to show that Newt is still the leading a**hole in the GOP (although there are a number of seriously competing candidates).

I would like to thank Newt for making it so easy to discard him as a CONSERVATIVE candidate.

Apparently our favorite salamander is still stinging from his "die on the vine" statement.

BTW, lizards are often mistaken for newts. Perhaps the same error has taken place here...

Get lost, indeed! I don't even think he's a RINO! He's even sitting on the left side of the photo! Which means, his political attitude must be left of Pelosi.

Buh bye!

I'm so glad he did this, because it means that he's no longer a stealth candidate. He's come right out front and declared himself a socialist.

Now we can dump him for good.

In all seriousness, what was Newts plan here? His only fan base was people that could overlook his obnoxious, grating personality because of his ideals. That group, pretty much to a man, hates the individual mandate. Passionately. People that like the idea like Obama, and wouldn’t vote for Newt under any circumstance.

So why go there at all? Newts now aligned himself against the Tea Party. The only group he had a shot at winning over. It makes no sense at all.

This is the fourth thread on this already this morning.

Yet, the posters failed to recognize a couple of really important things.

(1) Newt is responding to questions from a KNOWN Leftwingtard ~ and he is asking questions that he knows are going to trip Newt (or anybody else) up because any conceivable answer needs to respond to both prior proposals in Congress as well as with current brief discussions of the same matter. That's pretty difficult so the consequence is you get a Republican answering a question that will PO certain self-styled conservatives.

(2)We have already been through this sort of thing earlier (for years and years) with the Leftwingtards. Adults need to always totally discount whatever the Leftwingtards have tried to elicit and turn instead to the written record or well known accomplishments of the person who was interviewed.

Frankly, sometimes I think some of our posters putting up this and other articles are actually in thrall to the whims of the Obots.

Why am I not surprised that the DNC's running dog lackeys on the WSJ editorial board were equally uncritical of Gregory.

"...At root, Gingrich is a condescending, elitist professor....."

Also, he is neither a wartime leader or consigliere.

With this idiotic move, Newt has essentially endorsed ObamaCare. He just thinks it needs to be tweaked a little.

This makes his position nearly identical to Mitt Romney. And Romney at least had the excuse of being governor of the most libtard state in the union.

Plus, Mitt has a better hair-do and can control his zipper. And, so far at least, Mitt has the sense not to attack Paul Ryan or the rest of us TEA partiers floating alternatives.

If Newt is trying to beat Mitt out of the New York Times endorsement for the Republican nomination, he's certainly made a shrewd move here. < / sarcasm >

The fact is Newt may have said something that offended some conservatives. The truth is, why would people fight to eliminate Obobu’s plan to force people to buy insurance, and then engineer another with the same force buy-in scheme. The plan to force people to buy anything is a non-starter. Insurance is not an answer to anything except to the insurance companies, their employees, and their profits. Insurance is nothing but a scheme that plays on fear and results in higher heathcare costs. IMO

"At root, Gingrich is a condescending, elitist professor."

Sure, he's a self-promoting egotistical jerk, but a pretty good writer.
Read his "Gettysburg" - great book. And yes, he should stick to teaching college history.

Interesting, re: Bambi's running mate. I think it is a certain Biden will get dumped due to “heath issues”. Biden has been a liability for BO from the beginning. If not Newt as BO’s running mate, then who??

Rightwing social engineering? Newt, a proud supporter of the prescription drug plan, should be an expert on that.
