Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich said Sunday that he strongly supports a federal mandate requiring citizens to buy health insurance a position that has been rejected by many Republicans, including several who likely will be running against him for the Republican presidential nomination.
Appearing on NBCs Meet the Press, Gingrich told host David Gregory that he continues to advocate for a plan he first called for in the early 1990s as a Congressman, which requires every uninsured citizen to purchase or acquire health insurance.

Gregory asked Gingrich if he would criticize GOP presidential rival Mitt Romney, whose "Romneycare" health program enacted during his time as Governor in Massachusetts mandated that all uninsured purchase health insurance.
Gingrich replied he would not make it an issue in the campaign and said he agreed with key aspects of Romneycare.
"I agree that all of us have a responsibility to pay--help pay for health care," Gingrich said, adding, "I've said consistently we ought to have some requirement that you either have health insurance or you post a bond ..."

Like I said - you are harping on nonsense. Keep it up - like I said ‘your harp’ shows who/what you are. Everyone else knows who Sarah is and what she is about. This is a conservative site - not a dummy site. I remember your antics in ‘08 and now I see a repeat of it.
agreed. I had not idea.
Bye Newt you are finished!
Newt is a very intelligent man but he’s also very mentally undisciplined and unprincipled. He never seems to back-check his logic to see if it holds water and is grounded in facts. A great many of his conclusions are based on flimsy leaps of reasoning.
Bye Newt you are finished!
Bye Newt you are finished!
Gingrich has a compulsion to be the be the smartest guy in the room, thus this pathologically self-destructive pose. The best place for him is academia where he can do this without consequences to the nation.
Cute photo of a phony. Gingrich, Romney, et al, cannot win in the general election for one simple reason: I will work my ass off to defeat them.
Sure, I'm "harping on nonsense" just like all the folks who were here publicly warning about Bush before conservatives stupidly elected him into office.
The fact of the matter is that Palin willingly traveled to Arizona to campaign for an undisputed RINO. While there, she wrote an op-ed for The Arizona Republic in which she stated that she had admired McCain for years before the 2008 election, even making reference to his fighting conservatives. While there, she publicly declared that she agreed with his position on immigration (which was still in favor of a blanket amnesty) and that McCain was a member of the Tea Party. All of these statements are verifiable in media outlets both liberal and conservative.
To date, she has not repudiated any of her public statements regarding McCain or her agreement with his stance on immigration (amnesty).
Keep it up - like I said your harp shows who/what you are.
And that is what, precisely?
If you want to make accusations, then by all means, go for it.
Everyone else knows who Sarah is and what she is about.
One can only speak for himself or herself; pretending to speak out on behalf of "everyone" is rather arrogant, don't you think?
This is a conservative site - not a dummy site.
Then why were the majority of folks here jumping up and down for McCain - even though he's not a conservative - in 2008?
Conservatives need to draw the line and start supporting candidates who consistently adhere to conservative values and who steadfastly advocate for conservative positions, no exceptions.
Unfortunately for the Republican Party, that pretty much rules out about most of their "mainstream" candidates.
Exactly what I was thinking.
Goodbye Newt and don’t let the door hit you on the way out. The man must have a persecution complex. Why would he even be on FOX anymore?
Agree. Weak field. Sad really.
Palin has more than proven she is a worthy conservative and has been leading the fight against Obama for the past two years.
You are looking for the perfect candidate who is 100% pure in your eyes. That candidate doesn't exist. Reagan wasn't perfect. Goldwater was far less perfect (in fact he arranged an abortion for his daughter in the days when abortion was illegal).
I want Sen DeMint to run!
So Newt Gingrich has joined the legions who believe the United States should opt for a Marxist future and who feel that the constitutional limits on the power of the government are illegitimate.
Too bad; when did that happen?
I just don’t get the attraction to centrally governing all citizens — it’s a idea that’s completely #’d up. Newt has been on this road for a while, so I’m not surprised he’s waving the Federal health care flag. It’s a shame though, he had a particular Conservative trait that he articulated well. Unfortunately, his appeal towards Socialism trumps his flirtations with Liberty.
He makes Ron Paul look even better.
Newt isn’t just toast...but burnt toast.
I don’t get his thinking at all.
