The European dream of a continent without borders appeared dead last night. A majority of EU countries voted to reimpose passport controls between countries in response to fears they would be deluged by refugees from the revolutions in the Arab world. Fifteen out of the 22 EU countries who currently operate the Schengen Agreement said they would be in favour of its demise at a meeting of home affairs ministers in Brussels. The treaty, signed in 1985 in the Dutch town of Schengen, created a European area with no internal borders which covers more than 400million people in most EU countries, as well as four others outside the bloc Switzerland, Liechtenstein, Norway and Iceland.

FYI
The beginning of the end for the EU. Countries need to be able to control their own money and borders.
This plus the first world/third world economic split in the EU does not bode well for the New World Order.
Is he saying that their current crop of politicians is going to be controlled?
Imagine that ... countries don’t want to be flooded with illegal aliens who have no means to support themselves. I suspect it’s more than a simple economic issue too. A flood of illegal immigrants also brings health concerns, such as unvaccinated children.
Soros must be really Po’d. So much for his Open Society BS.
Good riddance. Should be amusing to watch the fun as the EU disintegrates.

Thanks hedgetrimmer.
I wonder if Obama will call this “misguided” and Dems will start comparing the EU to Nazi Germany like they did when Arizona passed its sensible law last year...
Sounds like the socialist European experiment is having a few, er, bumps.
A misrepresentation of facts that could come from the leftist media whores - and indeed has in the past days. Fearmongering and doublespeak. The spectre of some Iron Curtain type of shutting down borders and free travel.
National borders were never abolished. Border controls were largely, but not wholly done away with.
Free travel throughout Europe for European citizens is threatened in no way at all. If border control stations are reopened, most travellers will be simply waved through, as before Schengen (I used to live on the German side of the German/French border and did some shopping on the French side on a weekly basis. Not once was I stopped or otherwise inconvenienced by the French border guards.) Yes, there will be profiling and random spot checks. Good.
The inconveniencies will be no greater than going through the California border checks for produce items I remember. Do they still have those?
Finally Europe is waking up to the threat of Islam. It was insane to allow millions and millions of the enemy inside your walls. But there is even worse news, once the USA with draws from the middle east and we will because we are tired and broke, guess where Islam will look to next? Yup, you are flanked on two sides by Islam and Islam is waking up from a long sleep. Islam spent 1,000 years tying to over run Europe and as soon as the USA retreats the game will begin anew. Only this time you will not have men like Charles Martel, El Cid or John III Sobieski to battle for your lives and the enemy will have a third column behind your lines. So by all means keep up the USA bashing and Islam appeasing, I am looking forward to a really good show over there.
Should also be amusing to watch the Euro as the EU disintegrates.
Of course they only use the ones on the eastern & northern borders; the southern border is, naturally, pretty much ignored./(sort of) sarc
I couldn’t agree more, that we will experience an exponential Ted Kennedy legacy effect if we don’t stand up to the open borders globalists in our government.
But standing up to them would force the politicians to oppose the globalists and transnational corporations who fund them, so as a means to an end, we must revoke any laws that allow corporation and nonprofits to donate to political funds and politicians. They are the ones that want the open borders and they have corrupted our constitutional government to get it.
If we cut off that flow to Washington, we’ll have a better chance at persuading our local governments and law enforcers to actually start enforcing the laws on the books.
Its time Congress (not forgetting the foreign contributions to Obama’s campaigns) stopped getting paid to destroy this country for the globalist agenda.
