Rolling Stone Readers Pick the Best Ballads of All Time
Rolling Stone Magazine ^ | Andy Greene

Posted on 05/13/2011 9:14:29 PM PDT by ConservativeStatement

Last week we asked our readers to vote for their favorite ballad or slow jam of all time. Votes were all over the place – from tracks by Pearl Jam to Elvis Presley to Lionel Richie. In the end it was very close, and there was a tie so we had to expand our standard top 10 to a top 12. If this survey has reinforced anything, it's that our readers really, really love Led Zeppelin.

Traffic - John Barleycorn (must die) + lyrics

I think the original was done by Steeleye Span. Not sure.

I was a fan of that thread. I have the REM, Sammy and and a new one on my laptop that I have been listening to all week, I guess I should thank you for broadening my horizons a bit. I still maintain that Glenn made the best song of his career on that. Here is the one you missed but being a Sergio Mendez junkie needed to listen to when I saw it pop up on You Tube.

Whether you think it's the best or not, no ballad was ever balladeered with more balladaciousness than Bridge Over Troubled Water.

I actually met Bob once in the early 80’s at Walps Restaurant in Allentown when I was a kid. He stood up from the table and gave my nine year old sister a kiss and shook my hand before he sign the autograph. He also had three attractive chicks at his table. I hate his music but love that guy. Only other time I met a celebrity was a Red Eye home from Vegas and Aiden Quinn sat across from my wife and I a number of years ago in First Class. He was all banged up and surprised that I recognized who he was. Got an Autograph that time too. My wife still doesn’t know who the hell he is.
