Rolling Stone Readers Pick the Best Ballads of All Time
Rolling Stone Magazine ^ | Andy Greene

Posted on 05/13/2011 9:14:29 PM PDT by ConservativeStatement

Last week we asked our readers to vote for their favorite ballad or slow jam of all time. Votes were all over the place – from tracks by Pearl Jam to Elvis Presley to Lionel Richie. In the end it was very close, and there was a tie so we had to expand our standard top 10 to a top 12. If this survey has reinforced anything, it's that our readers really, really love Led Zeppelin.

There is just to many. The crap we are subjected to today is a testament.

I agree.

That was the decade of the Scots in music...Pilot, Al Stewart, Bay City Rollers, Woolfson, Gerry Rafferty, Nazareth.

APP’s best albums (to me anyways) were “Ammonia Avenue” and “Vulture Culture”.

“Don’t Answer Me” from Ammonia Avenue

The title track of Ammonia Avenue, was another great song with Woolfson’s vocals, I always preferred the songs he sang on.

I grew up in that era....born 1957...to claim led zepplin is blah because they are overplayed for 40 years is crazy

Yes like anything good from then compared to the plethora of crap now
Its overplayed but not because It was blah but frigging incredible
And the bands you list were no more original though Sabbath does shine singularly

Uriah Heep...cool name but Demons and Wizard...its like Spinal Tap
Compared to how far zep took missippi blues and olde English music

Deep Purple...I’m ambivalent

A I saw all of them...some several times

Freepers are unusual about their music pronouncements at times

Are u real time on those bands or retroactive?

We need some professionalism in singing on this thread. Enough with the Top 40 nonsense. How about a heavy hitter?

Geez.....!!!!

I posted that last Wednesday on my “Wichita Lineman” thread. It was, how can I saw this...hmmm, it was...well, different.

I really don’t know what else to say about it.

I saw Plant live on the Now and Zen tour. Great show, but the opening act stunk (Mission UK). Wouldn’t have minded so much, but the other two opening acts (on the other two legs of the tour) were Cheap Trick and the late, great SRV. I definitely got the worst of the bunch there!
