Getting to Yes for Mitch and Cheri Daniels
INDIANAPOLIS -- When the Indiana Republican Party found itself in a bind this spring, unable to lock down a high-profile keynote speaker for its big annual fundraising dinner, it was Gov. Mitch Daniels himself who came up with the solution: He'd get his wife, Cheri, to do it.
It was a bold move, considering that she had never given a high-profile speech before and generally has been reluctant to step onto the political stage. At the same time, her husband has been pondering a 2012 presidential bid (pondering it for the better part of 18 months, in fact) and the potential candidate himself has hinted that Cheri's the one person who could stop him -- because she's been described as uncomfortable about the intrusion such a campaign would have on their lives.

I’m not sure I understand all the Anti-Mitch Fever that folks have. It must be his personality. The guy has been a consistent conservative in his RECORD, ALWAYS against national health care, unlike Romney, strongly against cap-and-trade, unlike Pawlenty, Newt, and McCain (and Romney). He beat down the public sector unions as effectively as Walker in Wisconsin, and without all the circuses because he know show to get it done.
Indiana has the 3rd lowest taxes of any state and operates IN THE BLACK despite being in the “Rust Belt neighborhood” in this self-destructive economy (Surrounding states of Illinois, Michigan and Ohio are fiscal basket cases). He’s been doing great things in school choice and smashing the government school monopoly.
It’s true he’s bald, but not as bald as McCain, or as fat as Christie or as wrinkled up and squinty as Ron Paul. So what?
He has a dry humor, which is not the style Rush likes, but despite my being a devoted Rush-o-holic, the Maharushie is wrong on this one. It’s true that Daniels is more low-key and not a screamer, but a lot of us LIKE that style. The question is: “Did he get the Conservative job done as governor?” The answer is YES. I wish El Rushbo would quit with his reverse-endorsements. If Reagan were running today, Rush would be complaining that he’s too nice and too polite.
And as for “making up his mind” about running, I wish, sincerely, that NOBODY would announce before Christmas (I know it’s impractical because the Press Corpse demands it, but 18-month campaigns are so aggravating.
If Christie and Walker endorse him, that will put him at the front, and I have no problem with it.
Rush is right...when the left/media wants to pick the nominee, you know it is a bad idea.
He isn't in the Senate. He's governor, and the best governor in the US over the last 6 1/2 years.
NAME A better one. You can't, so name a more conservative governor.......can't name one in that category either?????
“Only if she promises to wear the black full length leather car coat and Stiletto Heels at all times. And the scowl...”
Oho, so *you’re* the one who’s been reading my diary, eh? ;-)
Me too. And it may turn out to be an Elmer Fudd/Daffy Duck kind of election.
NOBAMA 2012
Cain nor West are RINO’s.
Primary politics always calls for infighting but Mother Teresa would be dissed by some on this forum in defense of Palin.
According to some they will write her name in even if she does not run and they think SHE WAS THERE FIRST the tea party dissed her...blah blah blah. Now suddenly they proclaim the tea party tent. The anyone is a RINO unless it is Palin mentality is twisted.
She is more liberal than that racist Colin Powell. She is still a favorite among the "some of my best friends are black" white guilt wing of the republican party. The same crowd that pushed for Colin Powell for president.
Every time I come close to becoming convinced that Daniels would make a good presidential candidate, he turns around and says something stupid like this. A “pro-choice” runningmate? Like his silly “truce” statement wasn’t enough to guarantee a low conservative turnout if he was the nominee.
Wasn’t Rice one of the Bushites who were praising Zero during the 2010 election?
I wonder if she has ever said for sure whether she voted for Zero or not.
And Daniels would consider her for VP?
If this guy’s not dead meat, the Republican Party is beyond finished.
I was referring to Mitty, the Huckster, Newt, etc. I just want to see more of Cain and West to determine if they are really small government guys, or just talking the talk.
Her bust should have nothing to do with it!
;^)
No joy. She believes abortion is just dandy I think.
Still will vote for Ron Paul first. Not voting for a damn rino, juan mccain, bush bot.
“I just want to see more of Cain and West to determine if they are really small government guys, or just talking the talk.”
I’m with you. And that goes for whoever the candidate may be. I want more than a standard stump speech and generalities. I want details on what they plan to do about immigration, entitlements, federalism, the growing federal bureaucracy, endless wars and “nation building”, etc.
No more “just trust me”. We’ve been burned too many times.
You are right, but does that go for the legs as well?
Sarah Palin or Bust
White guilt will not be overcome by nominating a black. That's not how it works.
Whites motivated by white guilt are EXTREMELY self-conscious about how they are perceived by blacks (if only they knew!).
When the "Obama alternative for guilty whites" is pelted by Oreo cookies wherever he/she goes, guilty whites will flee in droves.
More globalist picks to march on with the plans for global governance. Condi is as globalist as they come.
I agree. I like Sarah. I like 99% of what she stands for and I appreciate the fact that she LIVES her values.
It’s some of her supporters that piss me off.
