U.S. Navy SEALs, like the teams that killed Osama bin Laden, are grateful for nation's show of support but are growing angry with the continued focus on their operation, tactics, and tools, claiming it could jeopardize future raids and their safety.
"My friends in the community tell me they're very glad for the bit of attention they got," said former Pentagon deputy undersecretary Jed Babbin, "but at some point the best way to help them is to stop. You guys in the press have done a good job, but stop for God's sake, stop." [See photos of the reaction to bin Laden's death.]
The latest straw came when CBS revealed that the members of Special Warfare Development Group, formerly SEAL Team Six, wore helmet cams into bin Laden's lair. For many, that was a detail too far and could lead those being targeted by the military to somehow deploy countermeasures.
And Washington Whispers this week reported on two blogs that identified the type of gun the SEALs likely used to kill bin Laden, the HK416 .
"Anything further that comes out," added Babbin, a sponsor of the Special Operations Warfare Foundation, "could damage their operational security, maybe reveal tricks of the trade or even endanger their families."

Last week, on the John Batchelor Show, Larry Johnson questioned the whole timeline of Osama's destruction and disposal. The copter flights were too long and the DNA analysis time too short. He believes they actually dumped the body over the Hindu Kush. He also stated that the Seals' first shot, allegedly taken as Osama peered over the balcony wall, missed.
“They (today’s media) probably would have been waiting on Omaha Beach for the troops to come.”
Hopefully, the Germans would have slaughtered the media.

And the dirty SOBs. despite the massive aid that helped save their stupid communist asses, never returned the allied (including US) airmen that were shot down and captured by the Germans over the eastern areas that fell under the iron curtain. Something like 20,000 guys. Imagine those poor guys rotting away in some GD gulag, or perhaps just executed!

Are you on the side of the enemy? You are effectively demanding that the team is disbanded. Skills are perishable, our country is broke, our enemies are numerous and this highly competitive all volunteer unit didn't sign-on to live like meth abusing lottery winners. This team is there for a reason far beyond the vanity of our current _resident. Would you like to have the entire fire department go on a one year holiday at tax-payer expense after they put out a fire at the local opera house? What do you do in the meantime?

Not at all. Elite forces are used to being sequestered for extended periods. What do you think SEALs do aboard ships at sea for six months? Right now, a bunch of them are twiddling their thumbs off the coast of Somalia, on the off chance that they may be needed to hunt pirates.
The vast majority of their active time is spent training. The Osama mission was planned and trained for, for months. A replica was built of the place, and the SEALs practiced on it over and over again. This was standard practice even back during Vietnam, when Special Forces trained for high value targets.
But even further back there was a recognition that some slam dunk operations are so important that they can be a career enders, for example, Operation Vengeance that killed Yamamoto.
These SEALs have been so compromised that they and their families are pretty much out of the game. Intelligence organizations around the world have ID’ed them, and they will be under the microscope for years.
We know some American POWs from the Korean and Vietnam Wars were also shipped off to the ussr, never to be heard from again.
There has been “too much information” from the start of this highly publicized caper. I thought CIA ops were covert; that’s the nature of the organization, right? And we are hearing far too much about SEALS.
In fact, most ludicrously, Disney has already trademarked the “SEAL Team Six” name and will market SEALS toys and other gadgets.
It is ludicrous the way the mission and the team have been trivialized from the start, as if we needed any other proof of how amateur the admin is.

I will always have questions. And those you mentioned are some of them.
I see it coming too. I feel it. Of course, he will let it out. SEALS are now reportedly worried for their families’ sakes.
