INDIANAPOLIS -- When the Indiana Republican Party found itself in a bind this spring, unable to lock down a high-profile keynote speaker for its big annual fundraising dinner, it was Gov. Mitch Daniels himself who came up with the solution: He'd get his wife, Cheri, to do it.
It was a bold move, considering that she had never given a high-profile speech before and generally has been reluctant to step onto the political stage. At the same time, her husband has been pondering a 2012 presidential bid (pondering it for the better part of 18 months, in fact) and the potential candidate himself has hinted that Cheri's the one person who could stop him -- because she's been described as uncomfortable about the intrusion such a campaign would have on their lives.
In recent months, though, Cheri Daniels has been upping her appearances, and at the meticulously timed and well-choreographed dinner before a record audience of 1,100 on Thursday evening, she strode onto the stage in fire-engine red, hiding no more.

"We are a party of ideas, but more importantly a party that acts on ideas," he said, adding that in the Hoosier State, there were no forgotten towns or inner cities that are too bleak.
He has obviously given some thought to the area beyond Indiana's borders, too.
Daniels accepted an invitation from those 55 students to meet at a spacious bar several blocks away after the event; he sipped Woodford Reserve bourbon as he asked them about their own lives and families. In return, they asked him who he might like to tap as his vice presidential nominee if he runs.
Hypothetically, he told them, he'd like to pick Condoleeza Rice.

I would never vote for any candidate who had a liberal for a VP. Rice is a liberal.
I would bet good money that Condi Rice voted for Obama.
That doesn't make your case.
Also...
I thought you closed your case. LOL.
... he has supported some of the positions that Boehner has been for, thus he is voting in support of a Rino.
I'll ask you again. What positions?
Case clsoed again!
Again? LOL.
I didn't think anyone was denying that?
Daniels' paternal grand parents are Christians who emigrated from Syria.
Yes, it is a “double closed case,” Thus much stronger than a “single closed case.” ;)
I’m tired of folks declaring others Rinos, with the only reason is because the politician doesn’t meet that person’s personal litmous test. I wonder if most of those “rino declarers” aren’t actually Dems on undercover destruction mission
“If Daniels thinks he can do it, we had better start testing him now by teasing him about his height. If he can overcome his shortcoming from his intramural competition with grace and aplomb, then maybe he has a chance.”
Daniels routinely includes a self-deprecating line about his height in all his speeches. He’s well used to the criticism and can handle it with grace.
LOL. Yer funny.
“Rush reported that Laura Bush has volunteered to mentor a reluctant Cheri Daniels in the fine art of being a First Lady. So it seems the GOPs ruling class has already picked its candidate, as usual.:
Rule number one: Don’t run off with another guy during the first term.
“Rice is an AA hack. “

Congratulations. Your literary contribution has been nominated as most ill-informed of the week.
Seriously do you even know who she is? What she has done?
Her qualifications?
Do you know she was Bush 41’s Soviet expert on the National Security Council? Long before being Secretary of State. Her accomplishments are (far) too many to list here.
Do you know any of that?
Or are you simply here to criticize anyone except ... (who are you here on behalf of, anyway?)
Who do you support please?
Rice has said over and over she wasn’t interested.
So at this stage it is an easy statement for Daniels.
RE: So at this stage it is an easy statement for Daniels
Well, by bringing Condi Rice’s name up, Daniels is indicating the KIND of person he would like for his VP.
I don't think she'd return to Washington except by conscription! There are many here on FR who attack her in disgusting ways. The Left's heads would explode as they try to figure out how to make racist attacks on her while not alienating their standard bearer.
I still believe she'd be an asset to a future Republican administration. A Daniels/Rice ticket might be a little too much "Bush Part III" for the electorate. Who knows. I'm amused by his answer though.
“Or Trump?”
That works, too.
Anyone the Bush family picks won’t be for me. Sorry to burst anyone’s bubble. I respect GW and Laura, but we’re reaping the result of Bush’s not standing up to the MSM for eight years.
It’s time for a Conservative with spine and guts. So far, I haven’t seen one talking about running.
Col. Allen West, Jim DeMint, Chris Christi are examples of men who have the spine and guts to defend this nation.
RINOs need not apply, e.g., Newt, Romney, Huckabee, OMG, give me a break!
I agree. As for the others running; it’s more business as usual so they won’t lose their golden goose.

Heck, give us A L L a BREAK lol!
Couldn’t agree more! There is not onew in the present field I would vote for! Looks like wash, rince, repeat!
My hope is that by October their will be someone running worth voting for!
