Tears and a two-mile-long line mark opening of the first In-N-Out Burger joints in Texas

If you know anyone from Southern California, you've probably heard them wax poetic about In-N-Out Burger.

The legendary family-run chain is now winning over legions of new fans, but farther east than ever before as two new restaurants open in the north Texas towns of Frisco and Allen.

Cars lined up as far as two miles for the drive-thrus, and fans spent the night in the parking lot, for the chance to get a bite of the first In-N-Out burgers east of Arizona.

Danielle DeInnocentes of The Colony, Texas, broke into tears after she bit into a Double-Double, a famous In-N-Out sandwich made from two meat patties and two slices of cheese.

Ms DeInnocentes is originally from Rialto, California, and in a video posted online, she says she is ecstatic that In-N-Out opened a restaurant two miles from her house.

She told restaurant staff: 'You're going to see my every day'.

Ms DeInnocentes called the Double-Double 'the best hamburger in the world', and said, 'Pinch me, it doesn't feel real!'

Except it will be more like 20-30 minutes, served by a bubblegum popping teen who would rather chat to their friends than check your order, the hideously oversalted burger will be burned yet cold, the onion rings will be soggy, and you’ll pay $14.95 for the privilege.

That’s what happened to the American tavern.

Now if they can open a Two Pesos in California, that would sell.

The biggest thing going here in SOCal now is an LA based fast food joint called 'King-Taco'. They just opened a new one in Ontario Ca. and the place is absoulutly packed from morning till closing late at night. Most of the customers are of the hispanic persuasion so I guess they love it. I haven't tried them yet because they're always so full of customers, my son has tried it and he loves it.

You can get 2 bucks worth off add-ons to that five-guys. Drop the bag-full of fries. They suck.

Nope, I know places, just not many of them in Texas.

I have never had that kind of service in a traditional American tavern

All fries cut from fresh Russets and put right into the fryer. Never a frozen potato.

One of In-N-out's claim to fame is that they NEVER use frozen potatoes, in fact you can watch them putting the whole potatoes into their choppers right before the fry basket.

Don’t forget Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks. And the Santa Monica Mountains, and Catalina... Come to think of it, really anything natural in California is nice, the people just stink (I say this as a native of the Golden State)

Flavor and smell are the senses most closely associated with memory. That young woman is tasting memories of her youth in Rialto California and good times and good burgers gone-by.

America is not doomed so long as there are companies like In N Out able to grow up from nothing and thrive and prosper among the giant franchise garbage - providing better food at a better price with better employment conditions.

Nicely stated, but you also made me laugh with the "good burgers gone-by" comment. Burgers don't exactly evoke misty, water-colored memories but the life events surrounding the enjoyment of biting into a good meal may do just that. ;-)

I have, lots of times.

Mostly during the late 90s, when I traveled much. Later on, when I went back to those locations in the 2000s, they’d closed down.

Good riddance. Yes, there are still a few survivors, but the vast supermajority of them were awful.

14 hrs in line for a burger?!

Danielle DeInnocentes waited in line with her father for nearly 14 hours to welcome California-based In-N-Out Burger to Texas. Her first bites of a double-double brought tears to her eyes.

“Wow, I’ve missed you,” she told her burger.

Yep and on some stores you can see them do that through the window at the drive thru...

I haven't read all the posts......but there was a bumper sticker that originally read ‘In-N-Out Burger’. We were in CA for 19 years and I saw several bumper stickers where the owner of the car had removed the ‘b’ and the ‘r’ of the word burger from the sticker. It then read ‘In-N-Out urge’. Point taken.
