Just last month the U.S. sent two Air force cargo planes to help Mexico battle back wildfires in the northern part of it's country, fires that burned 386 square miles. It's a move that West Texas Congressman Francisco Canseco (R-Fort Stockton) thinks is a hypocritical one by the Obama administration as Texas has requested the same sort of federal aid but has been denied it.
"386 square miles pales with the 2.5 million acres of land that have been burned and scorched beyond recognition," says Canseco.
And Former FEMA Director Michael Brown thinks that a "snub" like this reeks of politics as he believes Texas deserves a similar response from the federal government.
"I think what's going on is we see the Chicago style politics. I'm amazed that he's put FEMA in this awkward position of not allowing federal assistance," says Brown.
According to the Obama Administration however federal assistance has been flowing to Texas by way of grant money, of which several counties are in the process of applying for.
"We have already qualified for the federal mutual aid grant which will help local volunteer fire departments recover up to 75 percent of the funds that they utilized during the fire, so that was correct in that stand point," says County Judge David Nicklas of Palo Pinto County, an area ravaged by the wildfires.
So far Texas has spent an estimated 70 million dollars combating the states wildfires.
Ya' but, Texas is a red state . . . the White House has a resident who is a racist and very anti-American. Certainly should be expected from Obambi. Pathetic.
“386 square miles pales with the 2.5 million acres “
Ten to one, I think.
Thanks Obama!
More potential future US voters in Mexico than Texas?
This is simply because more Mexicans than Texans voted for the rectum-in-chief.
When the capitol of the New United States is establish in Austin, we'll pay 'em back.
The aid would have been nice, but hell, why beg...
Don’t need it, don’t want it as far as I am concerned...We’ll take care of our own...
Sure, would have been nice to get a Shuttle (but we were politically snubbed), sure, we’d like some political leeway, as do the other border states need as well, to COMBAT the illegal trafficking and drugs into this state and into this country...
But what might have been really neat...If we didn’t get anything else from D.C., we should have gotten that carcass of OBL/UBL and give it a proper sendoff...But, alas, no joy on that either...
So Texas will still go as red as it can in the next election, we’ll do our part...I wonder if anyone else will???
Treason!
He is more concerned about the well being of another country than one of our own states.
I love Mexico and I think it’s great to help other countries. But kicking one of our own states in the teeth is inexcusable.
The Annointed One hates Texas because Texas has opposed him on a few things. Unfortunately, Texas does seem to have a lefty population that supports Bambi (actually, it has a surprisingly large Muslim population), so its opposition isn’t as united as it could be.
Obama is vindictive, callous, and a perfect bastard.
It’s political. Obama’s all about humiliation.
There is no excuse for our door-mat legislature not to respond in kind to BO in some meaningful way. Shutting down the natural gas and oil pipelines to the east coast would be one option. Texas could sell those resources on the open market more profitably. We should not stand for this treatment.
I live in TX and what I really would like to say could get me into a hot mess......so I will stop now......grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
Me too!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
