NEWSCORE - A mob of angry protesters chased a would-be flag burner at Louisiana State University (LSU) off campus Wednesday to chants of "USA, USA."
Graduate communications student Benjamin Haas had earlier been given permission by the school to burn the flag. But because he lacked a local burn permit, he agreed instead to read a statement in an area of the university known as free speech alley.
As Haas read the statement, a crowd around him erupted into cheers and jeers, many shouting "Go to hell, hippie, go to hell."
"You had a lot of people on both sides of the debate getting into a lot of fights," said James Haralson, manager of Tiger TV, the university television station. "The students started yelling obscenities at him. People started throwing bottles at him."
Fox News reports that Haas' actions were in response to the arrest of another student, who was charged with taking and burning the American flag once posted at LSU's War Memorial. That incident came just hours after Osama bin Laden's killing by US Navy SEALS last week.
Haralson, who filmed the protest, said Haas was surrounded by police officers on horseback and as they protest swelled, they moved him to a safer location.
"At that point, all the students began rushing him, continuing to throw trash at him," he said. "He was finally escorted into a cop car in the street and students were banging on the cop car."

Freedom... ...with Responsibility.
Wow- looks like the communists are losing the students
It is not a good idea to burn the flag in redneck country.
It's an SEC school, what do you expect?
Anyone got the Facebook link for the babe in the American flag shirt standing next to this guy? :D:D:D:D:D
We don’t cotton to that flag burnin chit down South.
So a group of patriotic kids are a “mob”.
What does the QueerMedia call a group of smelly, destructive, hippie Communists- a thoughtful assemblage of progressive, scholarly youth?

Freedom of Speech is NOT freedom from consequences. Praise for the students who exercised THEIR right of free speech. after all, if burning a flag is speech, so should be tossing a water balloon - unless you classify that as firefighting :)
Is Haas from Louisiana, or another carpetbagger??
The offices of the local democrat party, no doubt.

“We dont cotton to that flag burnin chit down South.”
No. Neither of our flags.
“communications student”
Oh great, another Media whore in the making. Just what we need, more leftist propagandists.
Missouri.
I was there. He had decided against burning the flag after the Chancellor called him. He works for the University.
The national press turned up the heat.
The crowd was more like SEC football. Chanting. Loud. In your face. Laughing at the balloons. It was no “mob.”
He then went to administer finals exams to his students.
The left tries to equate Patriots to the threats someone burning a Koran would receive. Moral equivalency where there is none.
LSU has a Free Speech Alley event. He could have show up there and burned a flag and likely gotten zero attention.
The guy who did steal and burn a flag a week earlier also stole a car to get to the Memorial area. Then he causes $7,000 in poorest damage spray painting. Exchange student from Columbia. Claims to be a Communist on Facebook. That guy was arrested.
How this act of “solidarity” was to do anything other than outrage people I dunno.
99.9% of the crowd just chanted “U-S-A.”. And “Tiger Bait.”. I did think the 3 or 4 people throwing water bottles were out of line. Again, nothing you won’t see at a football game here.
Overall, a win for Patriots.
Some lib school (most all of them) will likely offer Haas a job. So smart career move for him.
Who knows? Haas is a very common name amongst the Amish, and I didn’t think there were many Amish in Louisiana (could be wrong).
There is a funny scene about that name in the movie “Witness”.
