The Senate’s top Democrat on Wednesday harshly condemned what he said were “inappropriate” attempts by Republican lawmakers to intervene in a controversial labor dispute now before the National Labor Relations Board.
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, Nevada Democrat, said the GOP moves were an attempt to “poison the decision-making process” in the increasingly bitter dispute over plans by aerospace giant Boeing Co. to open a major new, nonunion manufacturing plant for its premier 787 Dreamliner fleet in South Carolina.
The NLRB, in a move that has outraged leading business groups and South Carolina officials, has issued a complaint about the move, charging the new plant was an illegal effort to punish Boeing’s unionized workers for a series of past strikes.
Mr. Reid said he was not judging the merits of the dispute, but he said the political pressure on the independent NLRB went beyond the pale.
“This kind of interference is inappropriate,” Mr. Reid said in a statement. “It is disgraceful and dangerous. We wouldn’t allow threats to prosecutors or U.S. Attorneys, trying to stop them from moving forward with charges they see fit to bring to the courts. And we shouldn’t stand for this. It may not be illegal, but it’s no better than the retaliation and intimidation that is the fundamental question in this case. It should stop.”
Boeing now has a plant in Puget Sound, Wash., that manufactures seven airplanes a month. The company is spending $2 billion on a new plant in North Charleston, S.C., to manufacture three more per month. The company says it will not cut jobs or production in Washington state; in fact, it has added more than 2,000 positions since it announced plans to build the new facility in 2009.

Quite honestly, even if Boeing came right out and said that they want to build in a Right-to-Work State to get away from the Unions, that should be the business of Boeing and the Union should have no legal fall-back. Legally, the Unions have the RIGHT to Strike but they do NOT have the right to not pay the price for being undependable, greedy and lazy. If this succeeds, then the implication is that the Boeing doesn’t own Boeing, the Union owns Boeing. That is a dangerous precedent. No one would choose to set up business in a nation that can step in and take over. If Obama gets his way, there is no difference between the USA and Russia.
I couldn’t agree more. To me it doesn’t matter what the reason is for a company wanting to set up their company or parts of it in a right-to-work state. Whether they state it or not everyone knows it’s because of unions, screw the NLRB.
Perhaps the ultimate irony in all of the Union bullying going on all over the map in this nation right now is that the Unions are helping in their own demise by over-playing their hand. More and more people are becoming aware of the bullying on the part of unions, the more people are waking up to exactly what the Unions have become about. The swarms in Madison, Wisconsin, only angered the public. Now the Unions are trying to bully Boeing. Two years ago, we had no idea just how ominous the union power was becoming - now the public is getting a wake-up call.

Employers with unions have contracts.
Contract disputes are what you negotiate over and when interpretations of contract terms are different, and the parties can’t reconcile that difference, they can go to court.
Unions with contracts with employers do not warrant special federal intervention - they can go to court, like everyone else with contracts do.
The myth is that the NRLB is about helping the economy. No it’s not. It’s about giving some extra clout to union demands.

What’s “inappropriate” is the NRLB’s intervention in the issue; trying to tell Boeing where it can and cannot build airplanes.
What’s APPROPRIATE is the Congressional oversight of a Federal executive agency; oversight actions that Republican lawmakers are conducting, in their questioning the NLRB’s actions.
Why can’t Boeing manufacture airplanes in Vancouver. Heck, China. Or Mexico, or Brazil. Delivery is no expense. Reid and his cohorts are nuts.
Yes, Obama, Reid and a good many Dems are nuts. They scream about jobs but support union thug leaders that are forcing corporations out of the country.
In this case Boeing wanted to backup production of the 787 (in this country) and the union gets the NLRB to file a complaint.
For a time I didn’t believe Obama was deliberately trying to destroy our country as we know it, I do now.
