Employment rate for black men at record low

If the election of America's first African-American president was expected to give blacks an economic boost, it hasn't emerged yet. Indeed, the percentage of African-American men with a job has dropped to its lowest level since records began in 1972, according to the government's monthly jobs report released last week.

Even as the economy added a better-than-expected 244,000 jobs, the percentage of black males over 20 who are currently employed dropped slightly to 56.9, the Labor Department's April report shows. For whites, the equivalent figure is 68.1 percent.

Before this recession, the percentage of black adult men with a job had never dropped below 60 percent, according to Labor Department statistics.

And among blacks, it's not just men who are suffering. Just 51.5 percent of African-Americans across the board--compared to 59.5 percent of whites--have a job, the numbers show. That's the lowest level for blacks since 1984

Many will not see this as a bad thing. As long as the government is covering the bills, many people will be more than happy to just stay unemployed.

Sure, I can explain it to you. There is a tremendous capacity in people to believe what they want to believe despite facts that are right in their face. And long held beliefs are very difficult to overcome. They are even more difficult to to overcome when the media is constantly reaffirming them on a daily basis both through news and culture.

Obama has really done the black community no good because he really cannot do the black community any good. It's beyond his capacity or anyone outside the community. If the black community wants real hope and change it must come from within and not from some slogan shouting community organizer. It also cannot come in the form of government programs. No, there must be a cultural Renaissance in this community. It must be grass roots and on the same type level as the tea party where their is no central figure or leader. It must come from within.

So long as blacks are looking to government for solutions, these solutions will elude them. So long as blacks vote on the basis of race and party affiliation then the solutions will elude them. The Democrats only want black votes and for blacks to stay on the Democratic Plantation. When a substantial number of blacks realize and understand this, it will be the beginning of real improvement of conditions in their communities. It will never happen with blacks voting 95% for one party.

Or they can be "poets" who write poems about offing/burning presidents who aren't one of them and then get invited to the White House by a First Lady who was late to be "proud of her Country."

But they'll still vote 90% for Obama while they try to blame "the MAN" for all their problems.
