The class of Monte del Sol Charter School students watched and listened intently as senior Emma Campbell, with the help of a visual aid, demonstrated how to use a condom.
The 18-year-old is one of 10 teens trained by the local Planned Parenthood to give presentations on sexuality to their peers.
"We're trying to normalize sex," said Denise Jennings, Planned Parenthood in Santa Fe health educator, who trains the students and is present when they visit the schools.
"We know kids don't always go to adults to discuss sex," she said. "They will go online or to friends who may not always have the most accurate information."
Campbell, who has been with the Planned Parenthood Peer Education Program since it started in February of 2010, said it's important for peer educators to "be there" for their fellow teens. "Sex is a really hard topic for us to talk about," she said, "especially with adults or parents."
Confident and composed, she told the Monte del Sol students about the five circles of sexuality: sensuality, intimacy, sexual identity, sexual health and reproduction, and sexualization (in the Planned Parenthood parlance, using sex to manipulate others).
The students responded with comments as well as questions about IUDs (intrauterine devices), female condoms and the difference between withholding sex from your partner and having a lower sex drive than your partner.
"We're taking it more seriously because it's one of us talking," 12th-grader Leah Tatom said of the class.

“We’re trying to normalize sex,” said Denise Jennings, Planned Parenthood in Santa Fe health educator,”
The problem in a nutshell (no pun intended)
Planned Parenthood or PP is really Pregnancy Peddlers. If you want to make big dollars on abortions you need to normalize sex and tell girls that condoms work. Then it’s just a matter of time till the money starts rolling in.
It’s called the “sex positive” agenda.
Just another of the left’s and their father’s attacks on the family.
God created marriage, and sex was to be enjoyed within that context,
so of course, the left, serving their father and in rebellion to God, perverting His intent,
would have a “sex positive” agenda.
I really feel like America is slowly being sucked down a toilet. The Northwestern University article convinced me even more than this one.
Normalise sex?? WTH does that mean?
Nothing involving sex is normal any more.
We have perverts and Homosexuals and all kinds of preference’s that are considered normal today that 50 years ago would have been considered sick.
Normalise sex by giving a course in how to put on a condom?
Any fool who cannot figure out how to wear a condom without instruction shouldn’t be allowed to have sex.
I was just going to say the same thing. Sex isn't supposed to be normalized. It's supposed to be sacred/special. America is in decline morally and that is far worse then any economic decline. Far worse.
Santa Fe is San Francisco east. From sex to sanctuary city, from gays to homeless panhandlers, its much more than the initials that are the same.

I think she misspoke. What she relly meant is "We're trying to amoralise sex."
Let’s normalize getting enough education to live independently and support a family. Let’s normalize getting married to a person of the opposite sex with whom you want to spend to rest of your life. Let’s normalize work, honor, decency, and truth. Let’s normalize being Americans who are unashamedly grateful to patriots, living and dead, who have made our way of life possible.
I’m going to be in Santa Fe over the weekend on business. I haven’t spent any time in Santa Fe in years and am curious on how much it’s changed. I’m glad that I’ll be in the company of like minded people.

In my previous reply, I tried to be “nice.” Here’s a better version:
Let’s normalize keeping your skirt down and your britches zipped unless you’re legally, morally, and financially responsible.
Yes, folks, this is today’s illustration of the fact that there really are people that stupid in our “education” system.
The more of this stuff I read the more I realize that the ship has already sailed, we can't save this culture anymore.
We should now support an alternative education system (home schooling, christian, etc.) to preserve our roots in case they might come in handy in the future.
Absolutely.
The homeschooling movement is more or less a “resistance movement”.
I think you will find that traffic is even worse than you remember. Suburbs extend further south and east than you remember (east past the junior college) and graffiti, illegals and gangs rule.
Based on current articles, the panhandlers, homeless and transient populations have found their summer residence. The city (with the help of the ACLU, of course) has instituted a complex ordinance that prohibits them some places (like near schools, bus stops and atm's.) but that still leave them plenty of places for them to loiter and harass. Business owners hate it because tourists come into their shops for protection and are angry and tell shopkeepers they will spread the word that Santa Fe is place to stay away from. More cops have been placed on patrol on the plaza, but like cockroaches exposed to the light, there are still lots of less patrolled business areas.

You can, of course, take the Rail Runner for a round trip cost about the same as a McDonald's meal and ponder that for every paying passenger, the state/local taxpayers pay about $70.
The pun should be intended its a good one. Only mentally imbalanced, sick people come up with this slop!
