"I wouldn't say that this is going to be a disaster, but the modern Mississippi levee system has never been tested under flood conditions like this," he said. "It's probably going to exceed water levels not seen since the Great Flood of 1927: historically the largest ever measured."

The person in question is a United States citizen by virtue of his birth in Honolulu, Hawaii, Aug. 4, 1961. That's quite a bombshell.

Bad things occur in threes. We had the horrible Wednesday with multiple tornadoes. The Mississippi River is cresting at levels only seen once in history before and may exceed the record. What's next, the New Madrid Fault? All of this water right over the fault can't be good. As Bill Cosby once said, Don't ever say it can't be worse, because worse always happens. The Madrid Fault would put this area and the economy in the tank big time if it were to move in conjunction with the epic flood of 2011.

Don’t even joke about New Madrid. We’d become East and West America in a flash....

Between the New Zealand, Chile, Japan, Haiti, and other quakes, the past 12 months have seemed unusually active.
I wonder if the river runs on the fault line. All that weight of water on the river path wouldn’t help if it was due to slip.

Think about the lines of communication - bridges for highway and rail, pipelines, etc.
By the way, a pet peeve is that exercises seem to assume that this will happen on a pleasant June day, never in the middle of a Missouri ice storm. For real fun, look up “Seismically-induced liquefaction” - i.e.the properties of sand when shaken.

“obama birth bombshell!!....”
Are they going to use Obama Birth Bombshell to keep the river away from New Orleans?
Obama Birth Bombshell must be some new type of super strong material to build a levee with...

Oh, I live a couple miles downhill from a vertical slip fault on an ancient seabed. We’re a couple meters past due for our own quicksand experience.

Yeah, that place needs to get flooded every time it rains. Eventually even the idiots will get the message and STOP REBUILDING THERE.
