One thinks of rats scurrying off a sinking ship.
Meaning the new exodus of birthers from birtherism. Fox News now says in a blog post that it hardly pushed the birther issue at all. Wonder how folks got the idea Fox did that? Oh yeah: by watching Fox.
And Rush Limbaugh says he warned people this was a dead end. This is the same Limbaugh who recently said there were legitimate citizenship questions about President Obama.
Granted, some on the right were starting to distance themselves from this absurdity even before Obama finally released his long form birth certificate last week. Witness Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer vetoing a bill that would have required presidential candidates to provide proof of birth. Perhaps the few remaining grownups on the right begin to fear the effect of being defined by cartoon characters and cranks.
But let us not dismiss the birther imbroglio without calling out the bigotry at its core. Yes, that word will bring howls of protest from people who will declare that race had nothing to do with their demands for Obamas original birth certificate.
And I believe them. Or at least, I believe they believe what they are saying.
Thing is, bigots do not usually stand up and say, I am a bigot. They hide this from themselves, much less from you or me. Indeed, Mel Gibson, last heard telling his girlfriend she would be raped by a pack of effing N-words, just said in an interview that he is not a racist.....

Leonard is still writing under the influence of prejudice.
You point out one of the left’s favorite logical fallacies, that of “irrelevant thesis”.
Yeah, so what if the “birthers” are racists. Show us proof of his eligibility!
Summarizing: "If only he were white, birthers would support him taking their country into socialism." Sheesh.
Thing is, idiots do not usually stand up and say, "I am an idiot". Rather, they write articles like this one to prove it beyond all doubt.
Look in the mirror, twit, you'll see one.
Racialist bird droppings.
LOL!
“Not to be confused with “Journalism While Black”, mind you!
Yawn.... “
Leonard, baby. Got yourself a shiny new Race Card, eh? Don’t worry, Leonard. We never confuse you with anything journalistic.
“Leonard Pitts is the stupidest and most racist of the affirmative-action Pulitzer winning columnists, even including Eugene Robinson. The local paper used to carry Pitts, but he was too stupid even for their leftist editorial page.”
Our rag still carries the racist little twit. Got to admit, most of his pathetic headlines are a hoot.
Once again, we learn why the phrase “the pits” came into being.
Leanard Pitts is consistently a race-baiting, socialist POS. What’s even worse is that he sometimes teaches at colleges (like Ohio University). This malicious, vile man shoud be ignored at all costs. Hopefully, his students rebel, but I’d bet that many are nothing but ass-kissing liberals themselves.
Just silliness. You treat a black American the same as a white American and they call you a racist. Seems to me they are the racists because they think people should be treated differently.
More like “Presidenting while having policies that are destroying the nation.”
Leonard, I think its presidenting while ineligible that has got most of us riled up. That hokeyed up long form Barry trotted out last week is not holding up too well under scrutiny so don’t get too comfortable yet.
Pitts would be a better columnist, and a better man, if he would get the log out of his own eye before criticizing the motes in the eyes of those who despise Obama for his lie and his policies and his racism rather than the color of his skin
Trust but verify - we need forensic experts to examine Obama’s long form birth certificate.
With Pitts, it is race all the time. That’s the only card he has to play.
It’s always good to read a bit of Leon Pitt’s EEO journalism and realize what a wasteland Affirmative Action is....he’s a tool.
